The team ye feared most are gone, so it's plain sailing now for Limerick!

Could you spread that 14/1 around. We love been underdogs. I think Tipp could blow us away and it should be 33/1. Actually about the red card. T.J. Ryan said it was not a red. I don't agree. If Waterford knew and substituted him what would have happened ? He could have been injured or sick. You can't send off another player for some one else discretion. It is not the ref's job to make a game of it. They do make mistakes. There was one other incident in the second half that I took issue with at the time. A Waterford player got the ball out to Barron 10ft. away with the field open in front of him. The ref blew straight away for a foul with no advantage. He was close and could see what was developing. This is not a mistake. It is cheating.

I was reacting to someone else's 'maybe' arguments. Maybe I shouldn't have bothered. I'm not going into what happened back in those years, 2012-2016, don't wish to open old wounds. I'll just make this comment, AC brought a number of teams, club and county to All Ireland finals but failed to win any. That is not the case with MK. Maybe we would have won another AI if MK were in charge, maybe not. It makes no difference now. The one thing I feel strongly about is that Galway are better off with one of their own in charge. Babs, Loughnane esp, and other managers from Munster have been failures imo. I don't think Galway are good enough at the moment to win an AI but O' Neill's selection against Dublin and again yesterday were baffling to say the least not to mention their physical and mental preparedness. There has been a problem at county board level too. It shows a lack of self-confidence and self-belief when they to go searching for someone from Munster to manage the hurlers. The All Irelands Galway have won at all levels in hurling have been won with Galway natives in charge.

Not often this happens but I have to disagree with you Oldtourman. Limerick should win it and I for 1 would be very happy if that's the case. Waterford are the next I'd like to see win it followed by the Dubs. If none of the big 3 win it for a few more years I'd be very happy!

Thanks Viking and I agree with you about the big three. I grew up in the fifties when the only two decent teams outside of the big three were Waterford and Wexford, so if Limerick are out they both will be on my list.

We disagree at times, even at the base of this issue, but you are dead right about outside managers. Everything Galway ever won was won by Galway Managers and I think Anthony Cunningham did great work, but was a bit unlucky.

Any Final involving any 2 of the great five in Munster would an intriguing final.

There seems to be a lot of negative reaction by opponents to Joe Canning on the field of play in recent years,Joe has always been a super clean hurler. Is there something being said/goading or what?guys do not react for absolutely no reason...is there something cynical going on...just thinking aloud and wondering.I know Joe is well able to look after himself but there has been many "incidents" in recent years. I saw the great Christy ring playing in his twilight years and he got very wicked at times. ONdeDITCH (Limerick) - Posts: 873 - 26/07/2021 21:32:33 2364486 Link 1 |
The big 3 are now the little 3! Limerick is the big UNO and Cody, Kingston etc should all kneel and pay homage Ha Ha .... Don't take this too seriously... I enjoy watching the games, it's nice when my own county wins, but not the end of the world when they don't. I usually find the supporters get more worked up than the players! Cork vs Waterford in final? Why not?

I remarked on that at the time...Waterford were in great attacking position...I was flabbergasted that the ref didn't allow play to continue...there was no injury.

Yeah... Christy got rough in his twilight years. He shipped a lot of punishment and learned how to give it back, especially in club hurling. The game was played rougher back then. I remember a mentor at Blackrock... Eudie Coughlan, himself a former Cork hurler ..exhorting me to give my opponent some timber. It was standard practice back then.

They're tough games to pick. Should be good matches.

Jim Broderick of Limerick held Ring scoreless in the 1956 Munster championship game... until the last 5 minutes when Christy got 3 goals. Ring didn't realize the untold damage he did to the psyche of generations of Limerick supporters!

No worries ..won't take this is too seriously. The big 3 may now well be the big 6. The problem seems to be in the unwillingness for the old big 3 to accept the upstarts on the scene. A few pundits come to mind immediately here, but you hear them all as well as I do. Get used to it... we're about the place and we're gonna be about the place.

You may correct me but from what I have been told several Galway men were approached after Michael o donoghue left to manage the senior team. And they all turned it down.. it was then at the behest of the players that Shane o neill was interviewed and ultimately got the job.

(1) It was Donie Broderick and Ring switched off him before he scored the goals. Limerick came from 14 points down against Tipp and on several occasions have come back from 10 down against them, so they do might comebacks as well. The fact is that was a seriously good Cork team who had won three All Irelands in the previous four years. The impact of those goals may have an impact, but there were several other factors that contributed to Limerick been down for so long. Among them emigration, lack of any serious chances for hurlers to get employment, unlike in Cork where every Bank, Insurance Firm, Auctioneering company or Building Society always had Cork Hurlers employed. Apart from Cork, then as now, always about times more men playing that Limerick had, or even have now. (2) Anyway, the rot in Limerick had started back in the late forties, when over zealous club rivalry split the county and one massive incident had horrible consequences. What was the incident Oldtourman?

In '17 Jamie Barron was fully fit and didn't go off that day as you stated. In my humble opinion he was the best player on the pitch. He was nominated for RTE man of the match along with David Burke who won it, but as we know you don't win man of the match if on the losing team. Maurice Shanahan for Shane Bennett 22 mins; Brian O'Halloran for Dillon 48 mins; Tommy Ryan for Walsh 55 mins; Colin Dunford for Barron 64 mins; Patrick Curran for Kieran Bennett 64 mins. mr305 (Galway) - Posts: 46 - 27/07/2021 11:14:28 2364618 Link 0 |
