SHC Draws

I'm going to look to the positive here and ignore the fact that things aren't quite as they should be regards the Championship and supporters etc etc
Probably fair to say Kilkenny and Limerick are favourites in their respective provinces . Some big questions to be answered, is this Davy Fitz's last hurrah with Wexford, are this Galway side too long on the road, ditto Tipp? Are Dublin making any advance with Mattie Kenny and are the shennanigans with Clare going to scupper their hopes?

In my opinion, Galways last hurrah was last year. Harte, Gmac, Davy Burke and Joe are past it. Outside of Concannon and Whelan we dont have anyone on paper that will lead us home in a tight game (unless its a game of frees a Joe will step up) Flynn, N Burke etc, no chance

Delighted with that Leinster SHC draw.
Galway still have a very strong panel of talented hurlers with lots of good young hurlers eager to get onto the starting 15.
We will sail into the All Ireland Semi Final without too much hassle i.e Leinster Champions , then we can worry about the All Ireland Semi Final.

Wasn't that sailing through Leinster the plan last year as well ?

Until they dropped the Anchor in the Leinster Final v KK, 100% completely our own fault we lost that.
Lesson learnt....drop the Anchor when the Leinster title is won not towards the end of the match!
Then fix any tweaks or cracks and get her ready to sail again.

I don't follow hurling but Galway and Antrim in Leinster? I think hurling at least should forget about 'provincial' Championships, what a joke,
if hurling had no back door the whole thing could easily be done with in 3 or 4 weeks?

The hurling championship is Munster minus Kerry plus Kilkenny, Wexford and Galway. You are right when you say that provincial championships should be abolished and again you are right when you say the championship could be played in a 4-5 weeks timeframe if there was a straight knockout plus you could allow players to go back and play with their clubs for the summer. The playing pool at intercounty level is shrinking all the time. No teams progressing from other tiers despite these lesser competitions being peddled as a springboard for teams to move up. Oh and of course, depending on what county you are, you won't be relegated. Sounds a bit like the European Super League the soccer is trying to introduce.

I find the whole thing so uninspiring to be honest, the only thing worse is the Leinster football draw.
We knew it was going to be KK/Galway or some combination of the 2 to win Leinster. Just like every other year.
The provincial championship is strangling the games for me. I was listening to Shane Stapletown and Conor McKeown making the same point earlier.
Could we not have tried something different, even for ONE YEAR?

Any team in the championship can get relegated if they lose enough games.

Don't think there's a clearcut favourite in Leinster. Each of the main principals has their own issues. KK have done remarkably well these last 2 years with the relatively limited talent of their current squad. But TJ is another year older and he can't keep working his magic. Galway need fairly major restructuring, some new younger players needed but in the absence of a proper pre-season it is hard to see it coming together for us. Obviously Joe Canning is still an essential player for us despite what an earlier poster says. Wexford look like they've hit a ceiling under Davy (he's at least a year too long with them) and it's hard to see them making progress, but due to the flaws that Galway and KK have they have as good a chance as any. As for Dublin, again it is hard to be hugely positive about them but I'd expect them to be better than they were last year so definitely they'll have a good chance against the winner of KK/Wexford, that is assuming they get past Antrim

Is that a new addition? Waterford lost all their games in munster a couple of years ago and weren't relegated.

If you don't follow hurling as you just said then don't be given your meaningless and ridiculous opinions

Why is the Ulster championship draw so bloody complicated can they not just through all the names into a hat and pull the 2 names out and thers the match. And that goes for every championship why is there teams getting byes to semi finals and all this crap just start everyone in an even level and pull the teams out should be noone with the God given right to receive byes what was done last year is done new year new championship

I think the reason is that teams are compensated for reaching the final the previous year in smaller provinces and for reaching the Semi Finals in Ulster and Leinster, in football of course.

Definitely no clear cut fav in Leinster. I thought it might have been set up for Wexford to win the AI last year but how wrong was I. I wasnt massively impressed by Galway last year but they still could have very easily won the AI. People forget how close they were to a Limerick team that a lot of people are almost saying they are unbeatable ...and yet I dont think Galway turned up at all on the day and were level with them on 70 mins (if memory serves me..)
I do think Galway are slightly in transition and need to sort out a number of positions as they have a rookie goalie and no orthodox corner backs - at least that are in favour. I still think they can use Whelan even more to their advantage and Concannon surprised me and for me was a definite All star last year. For me they are slight favs for Leinster despite being in transition and probably second favs for the All Ireland because of that.
KK were close to a final again last year but a few older players need to rediscover their form to have chance of all ireland honours. Mainly Buckley, the two Walshs, Eoin Murphy and Richie Hogan. I don't feel the younger players are god enough to lead that team yet.
Wexford are completely unknown. I'd be surprised if there isnt a big kick out of them.
In Munster its hard to see past Limerick especially given that they couldnt celebrate the AI win, Tipp are yet another year older and have been very much hindered by not getting game time into the younger guys so the older guys will all be there again this year. Its a big ask. I dont think Cork could win the AI but I do think that they have a chance of catching Limerick in Munster but I dont have much bar tradition to base that on.

Overall it could be sad to see some older players finish up at the end of this championship and without going out in front of packed houses. Some of the countries best players are a few years into their 30's so I feel sorry for them if this is their last hurrah. Horgan, Canning, Callanan, Mahers, Reid, Hogan, etc are some of the best ever to play the game. All have been nominated for HOTY once or more than once I believe.

I'm as entitled to express my opinion as you or anyone else is, we don't have to agree with each other though. I see a few people agree with me.

But you said you don't follow hurling?? That would be the same as me giving my opinion on American football something I know nothing about so there for I keep my opinions on it to myself
