All the money has been pumped into coaching and trying to increase GAA participation numbers in Dublin.

A Senior Club team wouldn't want to play in those Balgriffin facilities... They are shocking and so is the other training pitch the Dubs use...!
DCB now have 2 large sites purchased - 1 recently.
Centre of Excellence planned for one of them, with some training pitches inc All Weather Pitches, with clubhouse etc, and it is to be made available for a local GAA club to use also.

As for a Stadium for Dublin - plenty of options imo but nothing being done. Far too easy to just continue to rent Croke Park. Although with the clamour to take the Dubs out of Croke Park, this is the perfect time imo for the DCB to look into something. Why not build a mid size Stadium on the other site that DCB own, but I hear it will be turned into another Centre of Excellence. Maybe additional land could be purchased in Hollystown.?
With AIG on board, there would be no shortage of sponsors lining up to support a new Stadium development.
Covid wont be around forever, so there could be plenty of income streams from it....
Or you could sell Parnell Park if it still cant be developed. There are other sites in Dublin that could also be developed.
Only use, and let Dublin use, Croke Park for League Finals, Leinster Finals, and All Ireland Semi Finals and Finals.

Word I am hearing is that the DCB have now got all their coaching structures firmly in place and construction of facilities etc is next on their hit list. Hopefully a Stadium will now be in their updated plans...!
It is something all Dublin supporters want - our own fit for purpose stadium, away from Croke Park and away from all the grief using it, is generating...!"
Great to see that all that is happening Fionn. The centre or centres of excellence is/are a must. The stadium is nowhere near as clear cut an issue. Leinster Council and The GAA will quite rightly want their biggest championship games played in Croke Park. I don't buy in to this "get The Dubs out of Croke Park" philosophy. Our big games should be played in our national stadium. The question is what size stadium do Dublin need. Other issues to be considered are a suitable location and most particularly the cost of that site. Prices of development sites in Dublin are higher than elsewhere. It's good to see that the Dublin County Board are now addressing these issues.

Were the DCB refused planning permission for the site in Templeogue?they recently purchased Hollystown Golf Club and it seems they are going to seek PP there now.Its less than a mile from the Meath border.
Do they plan to have both sites developed?one for South Dublin and the other for North and West Dublin?

I'm not looking to pick a row with you Joxer but that post is a little self serving. There are an awful lot of highly dedicated young men playing senior inter county football throughout the country. There are plenty of highly skilled footballers from outside of Dublin entertaining people. Conor McManus, Michael Murphy, Shane Walsh and David Clifford to name but a very few. There are also plenty of teams who play entertaining football. You wrote about Dublin's footballers being marvellous ambassadors for the game. I couldn't agree more. I am very proud of how they represent Gaelic games both on and off the field. They are a great credit to themselves to Dublin and to us all. You also wrote about the ramshackle conditions in Balgriffin. That is a damning indictment of the Dublin County Board. An awful lot of counties including my own have built centres of excellence in order to provide good trading facilities for all their county teams both male and female. Every club in my county is paying a levy of €3,000 a year to pay for the centre of excellence. That money would do a lot of good if it was spent on the underage teams in each club. The building of a brand new 14,000 seater stadium has now been put out to tender. The Louth County Board has to contribute a significant seven figure sum towards the building of the new stadium. That money too would do an awful lot of good in relation to the development of underage football and hurling in the county. Dublin's stadium is nowhere near being commensurate with their needs. To the best of my knowledge Dublin doesn't have a centre of excellence. Dublin County Board should be told to get their house in order and provide their players with proper facilities. If they don't do so their games development grants should be withheld

How much do Dublin really need to invest in training facilities when theyve multiple universities, and all other faciltiies within the city to use?
Dublins games development grants are spent on kids in schools and clubs. Why should that funding be withdrawn because Dublin dont have a centre of excellence that isnt used as the county is using facilities that exist already in facilities privately owned.

Dublin being moved from Croke Park for all bar those 4 rounds means a loss of millions in gate receipts and doesnt make sense.

I dont care about buying a house. Its a very irish thing. You dont need to. Look at Germany and look at the percentage of people who dont ever buy a home.

Actually when you are able to live well and have a good landlord I'd say renting all your life is no problem! A new stadium for Dublin GAA is a superfluous project imo.

I've an old friend from Kildare who is wont to say, "Croke Park should be in the midlands" so that it would be as neutral a venue as is possible and equi-distant from the farthest regions. If you could turn back the clock and start again he would have a valid point. In that scenario, a brand new stadium for Dublin GAA would be necessary and important. But with Croke Park in their own back yard it makes no sense to build another "mini- Croke Park" within a few miles of it.

It is fine staying there until your whinging and noisy neighbours want your landlord to turf you out for Xmas, your birthday and every Bank Holiday weekend though.... Then it is definitely time to move into your own place and the piece of mind & silence, will be music to your ears.. Everyone is a winner.... ;o)

Would you rather buy your own home or stay renting all your life?"
I dont care about buying a house. Its a very irish thing. You dont need to. Look at Germany and look at the percentage of people who dont ever buy a home."]Germany has certain things like rent controls, strong laws protecting tenants, renters' associations, socialised childcare etc. that makes renting an attractive life choice for a lot of people, all of which Ireland currently lacks.

I don't see FF/FG alienating the land/property owing class by legislating for those things, either. It's more likely that they will starting pushing for things like co-living developments, at least in the cities.

Replying To Greengrass:  "I'm not looking to pick a row with you Joxer but that post is a little self serving. If they don't do so their games development grants should be withheld"
Totally agree Greengrass. I didn't mean for my post to sound self-serving but you need to read it in the context of the post to which I was replying to about Dublin being pampered and the "manor" at Croke Park. You're right, Dublin don't have a centre of excellence and the county ground is not fit for purpose. A lot of money has gone into games development but the facilities have played second fiddle. As Fionn said, we want nothing more than our own suitable county stadium. I for one don't like going to games in a two thirds empty Croke Park in the middle of winter. It's a soulless ice bucket. Give me the Neller any day, if only it had the capacity. Ask Cillian O'Connor or Clifford would they prefer to play Dublin in championship in Parnell Park with the Dublin crowd on top of them baying for blood or the wide open expanse of the familiar Croke Park with Mayo fans outnumbering Dublin. I'm sure they would choose the latter. Hopefully the DCB will throw everything at the ground problem. Not sure what the future will hold for Croker, possibly a couple of LSFC games and 3 AI series games in both codes per year?

I thought his thread was about tradition in GAA? If you want to talk about property and rent control there are plenty of other places on the internet to discuss it yadda yadda yadda

I've no trouble playing Dublin in Croke Park but I'm just a fan. I relish playing them there and so do Mayo players I know. There is a point to be made for taking them away for Leinster games (not the final).

A major advantage Dublin GAA have is not having to maintain a big stadium. Look the the expense and cost (in some cases financial trouble) Cork, Mayo, Galway have run into in recent years.

Seriously!!
Considering some of the dead ends this thread has gone down, property is what you have a problem with?
