I'm a Tipp man obviously but I agree. Sky's coverage and entertainment level is no where near RTE. The RTE pundits in hurling in particular are so much easier to listen to.

I didn't watch the hurling so couldn't comment. What I would say to be fair isRTE have championed hurling over football for a number of years so hurling people migjt be more in favour of RTE's product. To be fair as well Sky is a sports channel who have worldwide experts producing world class sports programming regularly. As a GAA fan I'm happy they've used all that knowledge and experience to produce a slick GAA product. They had Canavan, Donaghy and McGuiness today; all excellent guests; it appears Sky have identified the talent and let them be the stars of the off field section; dictating the conversation and analyis; being allowed to move the show in the direction best linked to what they've observed. There was certainly no pre show script from what I seen; if anything the presenter who was an excellent anchor had to intervene to stop the conversation for ad breaks etc. From the extended pre game discussions, analysis it was very impressive. Just wondering will the Covid-19 issue relating to the home counties of Fermanagh, Offaly, Leitrim and in particular Sligo be given reasonable time on RTE'S Sunday game or for that matter it's opposite number "sky" to air their views on Covid-19 concerns. Not a chance, most teams outside Div1 only get the 90 second snippet on the Sunday Game and Sky as the junior broadcaster of Gaa is solely interested in the big guns. I've never much been interested in Match of the Day but I often thought it's a pity the Sunday Game doesn't use a similar format. ie give all the championship games roughly the same coverage rather that spending the vast majority of their time showing and talking about the Div1 teams only (especially considering that games involving those teams were likely shown live on tv anyway!!) You'd hope Colm O'Rourke remember where he spent the first six or seven years of his life and speak up for smaller counties. But the mantra on the Sunday Game for a long time has been get rid of the weaker counties into a second tier....for their own good of course...and then we'll see half minute reports on the b final. Out of sight, out of mind.

I agree- it is very disappointing. Look at what those hurling competitions did for the smaller counties- were for their own good too we were told. Great results from it seeing Westmeath, Kerry, Antrim, Offaly etc make huge progress playing in them!!!!!!!!!!

Are you having a laugh, every time I see Ursula Jacob on the television I have to turn it off. RTE have some excellent hurling pundits, but Ursula is certainly not one of them.

Yes TSG should really implement a MOTD style highlights and coverage system. Although that would then require RTE to fork out for commentators (or buy the rights to borrow county radio commentary) at every single game, so no chance of that happening!

Colm O'Rourke wouldn't be a TV pundit on RTE if he had remained in and played for Leitrim regardless of how knowledgeable he is. Pundits are only taken from traditionally strong counties with the exception of Dessie Dolan. Everyone now knows that the way forward is to play off the intercounty championship on a knock out basis and pledge more time in good weather to the club championship but it won't happy because the association is run as a corporate money making organisation. Less training and less time for counties to spend hours in a field and in a class room devising tactics that put most of the people watching to sleep. The main reason why Kerry and Monaghan are gone from the championship is that they were too negative due to tactics and if they had gone and played their natural game i.e. trying to outscore their opponents, the odds are that they would have won and would be still in the championship.

I like Colm, he speaks his mind on TSG. He has been on RTE news programmes in his school principal role, and has always made a lot of sense, sometimes going against his own Union on teaching matters. The difference in respect between RTE and Sky is night and day. It really is a fantastic GAA show with no politics; it was an emotional reflection on Harte's career; very accurate and honest. Compare that to the comments on the SG over the last couple of years. Now of course the SG will be tripping over themselves to praise MH tomorrow but we know that will be scripted.
