I dont think trying to remove left and right or not talk about how parties can have wildly divergent beliefs on the same issue is a bad thing.

Fair enough KillingFields but why should every opinion and view be labelled left or right. Most people have a wider range of opinions that can go right across the spectrum. Do we really need a divived society like the US?

Because they are different and what other way do you use to show different viewpoints? Left and Right goes across the spectrum and we have a very divided society across multiple issues just like any other country KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3510 - 10/10/2020 21:25:44 2296729 Link 1 |
Have to totally agree. Gerry Adams on Late Late in the 90s was ambushed by whole panel plus presenter but he made wee boys out of them. Wouldn't even shake his hand, blood boiling stuff.

TG4 are the best for rural Ireland imho. They show the true Irish Catholic story. Apologies to Irish Protestants.

Ahh catholicism, the original virus in Ireland, took us a long time to find a vaccine but I think we're getting there.

It will be great to see Proud Irish Catholic Joe Biden, win the Presidency of the USA.

There's no issue with Catholicism, - this is the formulae. Catholicism = Immortal software. Church = Mortal hardware The original virus in Ireland dates back to "Paganistic" Ireland and Bush schools, supported by old wives tales. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 2907 - 12/10/2020 15:20:10 2297027 Link 0 |
Thankfully we were under their rule for only a tiny percentage of our long history. And it won't be long until its completey gone. lilypad (Kildare) - Posts: 1363 - 12/10/2020 16:40:16 2297054 Link 1 |

Not at all and regardless is a mile better than the orange yoke running for the republicans

I am sure I have heard someone say Trump is an embarrassment. but to compensate for that, his wife is a practicing Catholic, there's hope for him yet.

Terrible, almost like a kangaroo court, love how you got Adams and ambushed into same sentence. On the bright side he made it home safely. Many did not.

Harris would be a more credible candidate than Biden for me, though you can be sure if she was running for President that Trump would ramp up the racial, anti-immigrant, anti-female brigade to generate votes. No doubt he'll do that anyway.

Sorry Lilypad, the Catholic Church won't disappear completely. It will not have the same influence as in previous times. The Church has made mistakes but only a minority of the religious were involved in the various scandals, the majority are perfectly fine people. It suits the anti church brigade to spin the yarn that the whole lot of them are corrupt. That just doesn't make sense if you think about it. The problem is some people don't think. The church provided health and education in the past when the state could not.

Fair point, there are many decent people within the Catholic clergy though their numbers are diminishing. And there are many decent devout Catholic lay people. They had, and still have plenty of money to provide health and education. They used their influence in education to abuse children and some of them still lie about what they saw. So it's not just an anti-church brigade that are critical of the Catholic Church. There are reasons to be critical. They're not the only religious organisation to have commuted dodgy deals either, far from it.

Not every religious person abused someone in their care, teaching or whatever. There are cases of lay teachers abusing pupils, just as lay persons abused children, sometimes family members. The big problem with the church was those in authority ignored the problem, until it exploded in their faces. There is a plan to deal with incidents in each diocese now, and so there should be. The bad eggs ruined things for the majority who did no wrong. MicktheMiller (Offaly) - Posts: 421 - 12/10/2020 22:47:52 2297146 Link 4 |
In general I have the greatest respect for people irrespective of their politics, religion or gender and I'm certainly not a bitter person, to tar everyone with the same brush as they say is not good either, it reminds me of a head line caption in Sundays Indo which read, " Have Women any idea of how much Men hate them." The more you read into her column the more you could see she had her reasons, however, as we say there are many decent lay people within the catholic church without guilt, so too are there many decent men in our mists and not all are guilty of crimes or suggestive crimes against women as Ms O' Malley puts in print. In fairness to her she probably knew that the headline would get people to read further in, nothing wrong with all of that except it lacked a bit of political correctness shall we say.

Now there is Amy Cohen Barrett running for Supreme Court! A member of "people of praise" cult within Catholic religion! Charismatic catholic where the man is head of household. Will plunge America into dark ages with 6 out of 9 right wing zealots running the country. Roll on Biden/Harris and pack the courts When elected! of course, there were some great people in the church down the years, education was there, but it was quite literally rammed down the students throats, I can testify to that, lilypad (Kildare) - Posts: 1363 - 13/10/2020 01:18:23 2297162 Link 0 |
