Yeah it'll be interesting to see what happens next.

The government needs to be back in session. It's not good enough that with so much uncertainty swirling around at the minute that there is no little clarity and miscommunication.

I dont think it's so much the decisions that are frustrating people, it's the manner of the decisions. No real leadership and no clarity from our government. The government are hiding behind NEPHET and nephet are hiding behind government. They are forgetting that it's the people that are central to this crisis and shouldn't be left along the sidelines and in the dark. We need real leadership, clarity and explanations about the decisions that are being made, and not on twitter or facebook or whatever else they use, they need to get themselves on the 6 1. I have to say I would have never supported SF but mary lou and pierce Doherty are the two best politicians in this country at the moment by a country mile.

Yeah it's mad that they won't even sit in Leinster House, and will rent out the Convention Centre so that they can socially distance in work, while at the same time we have to send our kids into cramped classrooms next week where social distance is impossible!

Leadership is sorely lacking imo.

I can see it now. All Ireland finals in December, no spectators, and players getting togged out in row A of the hoganstand.

If ever there was a take the bull by the horns situation it is now.
As you say, there should be a slot on the news where restrictions and the reasons behind them are spelled out in bullet point format so that there is no ambiguity whatsoever.

The schools have been closed for 6 months and yet here we are with less than 2 weeks to go and still no coherent message around transport and reopening.

See this is the type of b.s. that will keep us in trouble. Trying to off set one bad behaviour by quoting another.

on a parochial note I hope the ministry for Agriculture now comes to Donegal and Mc Conalogue who should have got it in the first place, he might manage to stay in office till Christmas, that would be a big improvement over his predecessors."
Dread the thought, but they might give it to him and use up whatever political capital he currently has (if any). Should there be a spring election, McConalogue potentially could be a casualty like Coughlan ten years before him. Pat The Cope would be head and shoulders clear of him in the ballot boxes simply by not being part of this Government. That is, if The Cope is selected by Fianna Fáil. (Though, Donegal has a long history of being open to Independent Fianna Fáil candidates too....)

Agreed. However, it is very important that those in leadership set an example. Otherwise, the whole thing loses credibility. Some people are only looking for a half an excuse not follow guidelines.

Yes WanPinWin and there are serious consequences already for the political people involved. All 80 people and any organizer should be prosecuted, given a criminal record and made an example of if the have broken the law. Saying you are sorry, you taught the regulations were been followed does not cut it. The same as if you receive stolen goods. Ignorance is not a defence. Cry me a river minister. There are too many officials acting as if the restrictions are only for the ordinary joe and I suspect some of that applied here. You know the nod nod wink wink stuff. I remember going to a court with family member for a minor traffic violation. He apologized to the court and the gardaí and was still fined 80 pounds when a weeks wages was 40.

I think Charlie may grab the chance and do what he can now if he gets offered the job, it will be a long time after this till FF see power again if ever imo, they have turned into a complete disaster zone, he would be good in Agriculture and might do something for the northwest.
I see the Taoiseach got a nice easy interview on Six 1, pity it wasn't Sarah McInerney interviewing him.

I can't agree with the narrative that young people are to blame and not following guidelines etc.

For every person under 25 not following guidelines there are plenty over 50 not following them either from what I can see.

Young people are watching their futures fall apart as the economy gets killed by this thing. They're part of this effort to try and protect the over 65s (and those with underlying conditions) and then they get the blame from some!

Older people are in the main, pthe beneficiaries of all this effort from all across society, younger people are the ones that are going to pay for it.

People said that about Fianna Fail after the 08 economic crash and they were back in power less than decade later. Irish people wont vote in big numbers away from right wing/authoritarian parties.
Id love to see a left coalition of labour soc dems and greens but just will never happen

I believe the percentages clearly show the virus is most prevelant among young people (even if the vast majority display no systems). But, everyone has lost out, is losing out, I was not able to attend my mothers funeral. I have also lost my entire livlihood, my young son and daughter will lose out more though with that loss. There are no winners or losers, each section of society is suffering. But there is a percentage both young and old who just don't give a damn. There should be a deep dark place for these people. I dont agree with a lockdown that dedtroys peoples lives, but thats what the country seems to want. If I follow the law I sure as hell expect others too including the so called polutical class.

Very sorry to hear that arock. I couldn't attend a good friend's funeral which was quite tough but that pales into insignificance with not being able to attend your own Ma's funeral.

Keep the head up as much as you can, lost my own parents young, it never quite goes away but it does get easier.

Condolences arock, sorry to hear that man. And I think you're right about the young carrying the can for this epidemic.

I think a combination of those 3 in government would destroy the country, I wrote the reasons I believe for this already but it wasn't left up on the thread.

Why?
We've never went near a left orientated government and that needs to change.
