The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Best Wishes to everyone for the duration.
Obviously the most important thing is everyone's health. But I really hope no competition gets scrapped. Even in 2001 league got finished. I think maybe we might even get better quality ball this year when Please God all clear comes along, as games and less training might even see boys play off the cuff like the olden days as less training means spontaneity has less chance of been trained out of them. Take care all

Will the Tipp management take responsibility if someone falls ill or some of their relatives die from it, it beggars belief considering the background of some of the Tipp management. Totally irresponsible, personal gain put before public health.
I know of one inter county management team that have already broken the directive from Croke Park, these guys have always been allowed to do what they want, but it's now time that the legislation in place is thrown directly at them & that they are named & shamed."
In fairness to tipp the situation accelerated majorly from Monday to Thursday, I listened to 3 gaa podcasts recorded last Monday nearly 2 hours of content and I'd day the covid 19 discussion between the 3 combined was less than 5 mins, the people who decided it was ok to go ahead with Cheltenham gold cup day yesterday are so irresponsible its unbelievable....

Polio epidemic of 1956 was something similar! All Ireland was still played a month late, between Cork and Wexford. Much less games played back then! Hope it's the end of Trump and Boris!

I do agree with you! Whatever about Galway in football, Limerick would be firm favorites for hurling AI.

I agree. I'd probably put Galway top 3 in Football while in Hurling I'd put Limerick at number 1 with all due respect to the other teams. Hopefully everything clears up and they can all prove it on the pitch. Galway Abu.

What Inter-county team? not sure what facility they using, they would need to be certain their insurance covers it I doubt it though you cannot insure a known risk.

They cancelled it today after coming under pressure from players so I won't be naming them.

Yeah. It's a big void for many. The hours of training and social interaction for so many or the attending or watching of matches for so many more. Big void. I imagine the subscriptions to such services as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Roku, etc will skyrocket as a filler for some of the void. I can do without the League but I was so looking forward to the Championship in both codes. In the Premier League I'm a Liverpool fan and so I am bummed at not having that to watch. But yes health and lives trumps all.

All I'm concerned about is the vulnerable category, both of my parents are in their mid 70s, for what it's worth I'm a United fan and if liverpool don't get the title it will be a travesty

Getting a little off subject and not a big fan of Pat Spillane his assessment in the paper of where the sport is and how it got there is accurate. This might be a time to reflect but as he said there is a lot of lip service at the top and no action. I knew it was bad but did not realize that team managers were dictating how long a player could play in a game for his club.
Probable more suitable for a new topic and input from the objective posters on here.

Jaysus, you've had a bad dose of it. You must be the only person in the world to survive all of those. I don't remember the Ebola outbreak in County Down, but it's probably before my time.

Best of luck to your parents and my mother is in her mid 70s too. It's a big worry. Far bigger than sports even though it's a sports site we're on. My mother is out the country so at least there isn't tons of people running in and out with the potential to spread the virus. Hoping for the best.

I will be surprised if there is any return to the fields this year. We are talking end of the summer at best before we see any sign of light.
I just wish that everyone stays as well and safe as possible.
