Cluxton. The most nailed on of any position in a team of the decade. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2034 - 05/12/2019 14:04:51 2253366 Link 1 |

Have to a laugh at all the Kerry posters voting Clarke. No disrespect to Clarke, great goalie. But come on, GK of the decade!!!!!! No chance!!!! ConnollyDub (Dublin) - Posts: 2007 - 05/12/2019 14:34:44 2253376 Link 7 |

In 2034, the GAA will be 150 years old. I would imagine that they will have a team of the last 50 years at that time. I don't think it's going out on a limb to say that Cluxton will be on that team. Cluxton is a good keeper and accurate with kickouts but I think hes a bit over hyped. tommy132 (Mayo) - Posts: 600 - 05/12/2019 17:52:16 2253429 Link 0 |
kingdomboy the poor creatur will oppose anything got to Dublin. Cluxton hands down. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 05/12/2019 17:59:42 2253430 Link 3 |
I think that's a fair point. Remember, when mayo did have their best years in 16 and 17, Clarke got the all star. Brendan Kealy even got 1 ahead of Cluxton. All this even tho Dublin won the all ireland. They've 7 all irelands this decade and he has only 3 all stars from those 7 years. He was there in 2010 when Meath put 5 past Dublin and in 2014 when Donegal won despite being 10/1 odds prior to the game. He did have an excellent year this year, and I think that's clouding some people's judgement here. As for the Clarke not being first choice argument - I think the results have shown that dropping him has always been a huge mistake. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5010 - 05/12/2019 18:13:49 2253437 Link 1 |
Your right of course but don't expect to hear that from those voting for Clarke

Where was he in the first 10 years? He was establishing himself as the best goalkeeper of his generation, winning 3 All-Stars despite playing in a team that never reached an AI Final. And, after that, he went to a whole different level. Leadership, playing skills, longevity, medals, historic achievements, game-changing impact - whatever measure of greatness you want to examine, Cluxton ticks the box. Stephen Cluxton will be an automatic choice on 'All-time teams' for decades to come, and will also feature very highly on future lists of the 'Top players of all-time'.
