I honestly believe that a ref from Tipp or Kilkenny was selected he should be trusted not to be biased. If he came from Mars some will accuse him of bias anyway. The stuck in the sand attitudes towards drastically changing officiating methods to suit the game as played today is what makes them vulnerable. It is o.k. to point out and question when the referee does not apply a rule as written. Like hitting or attempting to hit with the stick. Many other calls can be subjective. An example is steps. Sometimes the player is tugged back after 4 steps and the ref allows another 4 because of this. It is called advantage. Anyways I am rooting for Kilkenny, Tipp, hurling and James Owen. Yes and those co-commentators and analysts need to settle down. Shooting their mouth off from behind the microphone is easy. Take the whistle just for one important game and see how that goes.

Well tbh I dont think Connacht/Ulster are producing them, and if they are ,they are not making it through to the top level. Afaik Alan Kelly is the only referee from Connacht/Ulster refereeing hurling matches at the top level and he is not everyone's cup of tea either. He will probably get the big job in a year or 2 if Galway dont make the final. Not surprised though that he didnt get it this year.

I wouldn't say that after previous Tipp Kilkenny games he managed. A league final in Thurles immediately springs to mind.

The referees aren't good enough.

I'd like to see Keenan from Wicklow refereeing a final in the coming years. I think he has improved so much over the last couple of years. HQ might have felt that he isn't ready just yet. James Owens is probably the best referee at the minute. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 12/08/2019 23:48:17 2224971 Link 0 |
