Burke sends Kildare into Division 2A final; Meath await Wicklow or Donegal in 2B decider

Kildare's James Burke

Kildare punched their ticket into the Allianz Hurling League Division 2A final after snatching a late 0-23 to 2-17 draw against Offaly in Tullamore this afternoon.

James Burke’s free in the sixth minute on injury-time ensured the Lilywhites a top-placed finish in Division 2A, which sees them now awaiting either Offaly or Kerry in the final in the first weekend of April.

Kerry edged a late 1-20 to 1-19 win against Down thanks to Philip Lucid’s late winner from distance in Tralee, while Carlow confirmed Derry’s relegation with a comfortable 2-21 to 0-16 win at Netwatch Cullen Park.

In Division 2B, Meath will meet either Wicklow or Donegal in the competition’s final on the same weekend.

Despite falling to a 1-14 to 0-12 defeat at the hands of Sligo, the Garden are still into the knock-out stages against a Donegal side which scrapped past Tyrone earlier today with a 1-18 to 1-17 win in Letterkenny.

Meath had the same margin of victory against London (2-22 to 2-21) this afternoon to record their fifth straight win and consign the Exiles to a relegation play-off with Sligo in two weeks’ time.

The CCCC are set to confirm the dates, times and venues for the semi-finals and Division 2B relegation playoff tomorrow (Monday).
