All Ireland Winners Speeches - 4 Like(s)
I always find it laughable that we have to thank the strength and conditioning guy or girl, the dietician, the psychologist, the doctor etc. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think theyre doing it for free. Has anyone ever heard captains thanking the juvenile trainers that helped out in their careers in getting them to that stage. Just a small thought. Connollys speech from Galway was one of the best I've heard and I don't think will be surpassed.

Galway Vs Meath - 3 Like(s)

Replying To Meathball:  "Yes there is plenty of blame to go round. But anyone who has been following Meath Senior Football and seen what happened yesterday should not really be surprised. Most people commenting on here probably have not played or managed themselves at the high level of the people they are complaining about. Whatever the reasons for our collapse after 25 minutes It was not because the lads are not putting in the effort to prepare, the hours of group and individual practice is savage. Up until the goal in the 28th minute I was confident we could have got something from the game considering the strong wind we were playing against and the fact that we were holding them to one point every five minutes, a big factor in that was every time they scored, Harry Hogan found a Meath player with his kick outs which meant the ball didn't go straight back in (I think I counted 6 of our kick outs in a row we won the first 25 minutes). In the 2nd half I expected our kick outs to go much longer and that didn't happen, Harry's brother Billy (also on panel) has a longer kick out. Yes it was really disappointing and we have to hope everyone involved reflects, take responsibility and pledge to do a lot better going forward. I would be hoping Roscommon will be the victims of all our frustrations next Sunday. I think even if McEntee was to go now, there is no one to replace him. The Meath County Board should already have a managerial appointment committee in place now which could be sounding out potential candidates and be prepared so that when ever Meath exit the championship they have a plan in place to appoint the best candidate available and not be months behind and totally out of sync with how the process should be implemented, unlike before when they were left with egg on their face and appeared very incompetent. If people on here think at this moment in time, the answer to our problems is to get rid of McEntee and/or drop 10 players, they are not dealing with reality and have no appreciation of the efforts they put in and the sacrifices made. Yesterday was a very bad day and I can understand everyone's frustrations, but please be very careful while criticising individuals (by name) whether they be players or management. None of them went to Galway yesterday not to perform."
I agree . From an interested observer of Meath football now for a long time, I have yet to grasp the internal politics that seem to play out year after year in Meath . I have followed Meath now for a long time. Don't tell me the talent is not there as I have followed Meath underage county teams for the last while. If Meath don't sort themselves out they will lose out big time as I think this current Dublin team are in transition and there is a perfect opportunity for all counties to get there house in order and seriously take them on. Football has changed both from expectations from supporters, commitment from players themselves and managers facing increased pressure to deliver results. Yesterday's performance is certainly not one you would expect from any Meath team of any era although Salthill is not one of my favourite pitches to go to in inclement weather.

Replying To republicofcloone:  "You could amalgamate the best players in all of Connacht and that combined team wouldn't beat Dublin. Amateur v professional is never going to turn out any other way."
How many counties amalgamated could this current Dublin beat ? Any answers to that ?

Tailteann Cup Crowd Issues - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Dessie15:  "I attended the Tailteann cup semi finals yesterday. To say the crowd organisation was a mess is an understatement. Initially only the Hogan Stand was opened as the Gaa anticipated less than 10,000 fans would attended. Whoever picked that figure obviously has no understanding of the interest in all 4 counties. The fact that tickets were unreserved rather than numbered was crazy. Between games as the majority of Laois/Down crowd were coming in a d the Meath/Antrim crowd were leaving, its lucky nobody was hurt. My 8 year old was terrified and crying his eyes out as he thought he was going to be crushed .Added to that, the amount of fans that were clearly drunk was a shock to me. I have been attending Croke Park since 1982 and was suprised at the level of drinking in the concourse yesterday. I felt sorry for the stewards as they were doing their best"
I have actually observed that the level of drinking amongst younger fans is actually on the increase. I have been cognisant of this at games recently and it isn't nice sitting in the vicinity of drunk young fans. Stewards are turning a blind eye to this at matches. With some of these fans it isn't actually drink either , it is other substances involved also.

Replying To Albundy19:  "Wicklow played quite well yesterday on the heavy pitch, we created more goal chances than Dun but unfortunately didn't convert , we got cleaned in midfield early in the second half which gave the opposition a chance to put 5 quick points on the board. Positive enough with players to return."
Lack of skill , cost us dearly. We had enough goal chances to win that game. Although have to admit Down cut through us too easy. And we had no plan B for our kickouts, which is unusual to say the least for a county set up. Players coming back will no doubt help.

Replying To wicklowsupport:  "You need to start making sense for once in your life as oppose to having a go at people. My point if you take the time to read it and stop to think before commenting is that supporters of football in wicklow want the powers that be in the county to attract a manager to take the county footballers forward instead the county board are unwilling to show that ambition. Who suffers? The supporters and the players. That's my point. Personally i don't care if you or anyone else agree with my point or not. If you have an alternate opinion then post it and let us hear it. My guess is that you don't have one and are just trying to intimidate others."
I agree with one point you have made. Wicklow gaa supporters want our county board to go out and get the best available manager to us. I don't personally care what it costs because the financial resources are in this county if the right person is appointed.

Look you have got to realise that playing for your county is not the be all and end all that it was years ago. Players have other commitments . It's OK for bigger counties to have that lure to entice players in. We don'thave it. I don't blame the players.

Replying To wicklowsupport:  "I could be wrong but it seems to me that wicklow gaa are happy to plod along fulfilling fixture year after year at senior level without changing anything fundamentally. So, no i don't believe there will be any review-discussion about this year or next. I think we may struggle to escape division 4 and my reason for saying that is that when there is no ambition, it must impact players at some stage in their career. Some of the current team have potential but they need the right development to progress to the next level. Alot of Wicklow players never move to that level as they become mired in medocrity. I see the work that is being done in Kildare and they are struggling at senior level to keep pace. This tells me that Wicklow are falling behind as the same progress things being done in Kildare are not being done in Wicklow. I even think clubs like Rathnew and Baltinglass who were to the fore in the past have lost their way when i saw them play last year. They are not up to standard either."
@wicklowsupport . Have to disagree with you there but I saw Baltinglass dismantle Tinahely two weeks ago in Tinahely . Baltinglass played exceptional football and were very sharp to the ball. I saw nothing wrong with the standard of football . Only for Tinahely grabbing two or three late goals Balto would have won by 10 plus points. In relation to Rathnew I think they are doing nicely in the league so far and have registered a couple of important wins . Going back to yesterday's game we hadn't a clue how to defend. We weren't even close enough at times to put in a tackle. What we have at the moment are attacking backs. We play a defensive system where we clog up the spaces and try to move the ball out quickly. Yesterday was very disappointing as Offaly are no world beaters. Going forward I do think we have the players but do we have the desire as a county to move to the next level. As a whole I don't think we do, with the exception of a handful of committed people, other than them no one else really cares. Have a look at the next county convention where we will be discussing bye laws, sub laws, development of Balinakill, producing reports, ticking of boxes, and the annual handing over of the baton. I really do wonder at times.

Replying To Galway9801:  "Trump is not the greatest threat to democracy in American history ffs. Don't be so extreme. The media has had an absolute shocker throughout the course of his candidacy and presidency. The pro Clinton /Biden leanings of all but a few stations was like something you'd see in a 3rd world country, with twitter, Facebook, cnn etc suppressing stories that might hurt Biden in the run up to the 2020 election. Outrageous carry on for a so called democracy. A partial media is a far greater threat to democracy than Trump. Also, any politician outside of the centre is by their very nature divisive,he's no less divisive than Krystal Matthews (look up her speech on getting elected), except for his profile."
The problem with America is that it is completely polarised as a society. The divide is too extreme and there is no middle ground in any aspect of society. For me personally I thought Trump went OTT on the antics. However I have no real connection to politics but I do recognise that the Clinton's were no saints either.

Replying To liam500:  "For a county with at least a dozen clubs fielding adult hurling teams, its a disgrace. We should be competitive with Carlow, Kildare, Meath etc.."
One small point to make here. Everyone has taken a swipe at the county board for the failure of hurling. Rightly so in some respects . However if you want to see a real shot synopsis of club hurling in this county, then make yourself a cup of tea and Google our intermediate hurling league table and results. Clubs not fielding teams, clubs postponing matches, sure no wonder hurling is in the state its in. The county board can't be blamed for this one.

It most definitely is about money. Wicklow GAA incorp will not not rock any boat once it doesn't cost them money. The incorp will absorb any criticism once they do not have to fork out any money. They will accept countless bad results and lack of progress once the bank account balances . I have said it before here that we do have a panel of young players that have potential. If we did get a big name manager the funds would be there.

It was indeed a very poor result. A very small scoring return for a senior team of any standard. Anyway let's hope for a better result next weekend. Does anyone know if the u20 game is a double header with the senior game. They were very unlucky against Offaly with one or two decisions going against them.

Fun, fun and more fun. Don't be lured or fooled into thinking that winning is everything. From my own experience, if your players are not enjoying themselves then you or them will not get the best out of yourselves. Trust yourself and those around you, delegate and being honest, as was said previously, there is way too much material on you tube. You will get a brain freeze with the amount of stuff that's there. Have a look at the players in your squad, have a chat with whoever is helping you and decide what what yee as a group can bring to your team. Pick one or two things to work on and enjoy your year.
