
A GAA club on the Inishowen Peninsula has suspended all activities following the passing of one of its brightest prospects.
Malin GAA club has been left devastated by the death of 18-year-old Lewis Kelly. A Leaving Cert student at Carndonagh Community School, Lewis became unwell on Friday evening and tragically passed away in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin on Monday.
“We gather as a club, in this parish we call home, to comprehend the sadness which has taken one of our own,” the club said in a statement.
“Lewis, in your short life, you filled our hearts so much, you put your heart and soul into the Black and Amber and moving forwards is going to be tough.
“To look back on your memory, climbing the ranks through underage, you were every coach’s dream, showing more potential at every stage. We’ll miss your witty charm, your ever smiling face and the wonderful attitude you had, bringing so much joy around our place.
“We don’t know why this happened, why God made this call, all we know is the best full forward in heaven is about to lose the ball.
“Rest in peace Lewis.”
Lewis is survived by his parents Michelle and Hugh, sister Zevagh, brothers Quinn and Regan, and his girlfriend Darcey.
