Cork manager John Cleary was making no excuses after his side’s 100% record in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League went up in smoke in Celtic Park.
Cork were handed a 20-point drubbing by a ruthless Derry side who have leapfrogged the Rebels and Meath on score difference at the top of the table.
“We were beaten off the field really,” Cleary admitted when speaking to reporters.
“We needed to be in a good position at half-time with that wind. Instead, we were down four points. I thought we were very flat, just didn’t come out of the blocks.
“Derry were excellent on the day. They were really up for it and they punished us. No complaints. Beaten by a better team on the day, disappointed with our own performance.
“It’s back to the drawing board now.”
He added: “Last week (versus Meath) probably took a lot out of us. Travelling the length of the country up here, it was always going to be tough. This is probably the one weekend we didn’t want to be coming here.”
