Slaughtneil's appeal against last Sunday's controversial Derry SFC semi-final defeat to Newbridge has been thrown out, meaning Sunday's county final can go ahead as planned.

The appeal had cast doubts over whether the Newbridge v O’Donovan Rossa Magherafelt decider at Celtic Park on Sunday would go ahead. Slaughtneil lodged the appeal following their 1-16 to 0-21 loss to the holders in Owenbeg. The controversy related to a Shane McGuigan injury-time point which Slaughtneil argued should have been awarded as a two-pointer.

The Emmets were further aggrieved when a free awarded to Newbridge from the next play was brought forward 50 metres, with Conor Doherty slotting the two-pointer to put Newbridge in front. Padraig McGrogan added another score in the 63rd minute to give them a two-point victory.

Slaughtneil sought an explanation at last night's Derry CCC hearing, but their case was unsuccessful and they won't be taking it any further.
