Termon sprung a huge upset in the Donegal senior football championship yesterday evening to send reigning champions St Eunan’s crashing out of the competition.

Caolan McDaid’s men secured a famous 1-16 to 0-18 victory after extra time at the Donegal GAA Centre of Excellence in Convoy where they advanced to the quarter-finals of the Dr Maguire Cup race at the holders’ expense.

Ricky Gallagher’s goal had helped Termon to lead by 1-9 to 0-5 at half-time in normal time, but their Letterkenny counterparts battled back in the second-half to hit the front ahead of Aaron Reid’s point sending the game to extra time, with the scoreboard reading 1-12 to 0-15 come full-time.

In the end, it’d be a fisted point by substitute Enda McCormick that separated the sides to send Termon into the quarter-finals, dethroning their opponents in the process.

Yesterday’s other preliminary quarter-final saw Naomh Conaill defeating Killybegs on a 3-15 to 2-10 scoreline in Convoy, where Shea Malone (2) and Kevin McGettigan bagged the goals for the Glenties men.

Today sees the other two Donegal SFC preliminary quarter-finals down for decision with Sean MacCumhaills playing Downings at O’Donnell Park (3pm) before Four Masters take on Glenswilly at the same Letterkenny venue (5pm).
