Down are All-Ireland U20 ‘B’ hurling champions after edging out Tyrone by 1-22 to 4-11 at Kingspan Breffni this afternoon.

Cathal Coleman and Ben Taggart struck over late frees which delivered the victory in the end for the Mourne lads who trailed by 2-6 to 0-10 at the halfway stage.

A couple of Coleman scores got Down level early in the restart ahead of Shea Monroe hammering in Tyrone’s third goal and they’d net again through Aidan Woods in the closing quarter.

Woods’s strike would be cancelled out by a Shea Pucci goal in the 50th and airtight finish in Cavan Town saw points from Liam Blaney, Coleman (2) and Taggart making the difference for Down in the end.

Earlier at the same venue, Armagh stormed to the All-Ireland U20 ‘C’ hurling championship title thanks to a 2-21 to 1-10 win over neighbours Monaghan.

The Orchard men built up a comfortable 1-13 to 0-5 lead by the end of the first-half and added another 1-8 to their tally after the change of ends to ensure that captain Liam Farrell would be lifting the Andrew O’Neill Cup on his county’s behalf.
