The Offaly flag flies proudly

Sean Evans and Mark Corrigan will be inducted into the Offaly GAA Hall of Fame at the Offaly GAA Awards in the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore this Friday night, April 1.

Evans featured at full forward and midfield on Offaly’s All-Ireland SFC winning teams of 1971 and ’72. He had been a sub on the 1964 All-Ireland minor winning side and also claimed minor and U21 provincial medals in 1965 and ’68 respectively. Sean’s long and glittering career culminated in him winning a county IFC medal with his beloved Ballyfore as goalkeeper in 1992.

Kinnitty’s Mark Corrigan enjoyed a 14-year senior hurling career with the Faithful County, during which he won All-Ireland SHC medals in 1981 and ’85. Part of a famous hurling family, Corrigan was a supreme marksman who came to prominence with the first Offaly team to win a Leinster U21HC title in 1978. That laid the foundations for the unprecedented success that followed.

The 2020 and 2021 Players of the Year will be honoured together as the Covid-19 pandemic meant that several of the 2020 Championships did not conclude until last summer.
