Jim McGuinness has provided a positive update on Michael Murphy’s fitness ahead of his highly-anticipated Donegal comeback.
The 2012 All-Ireland SFC winning captain and star forward has returned to the fold, three years after announcing his inter-county retirement. His return comes after he was part of the Football Rules Committee whose rule enhancements, ironically, aim to encourage more attacking play.
Murphy wasn’t part of the Donegal squad for last Saturday night’s clash with Donegal in Ballybofey which saw Donegal belatedly open their Allianz Football League Division 1 campaign with a win, but could be back for this Saturday’s rescheduled Round 1 tie against Kerry after recovering from a hamstring injury.
“Michael is great, he’s in good shape and he’s enjoying it. We just want to be careful with him,” the Donegal manager told reporters after the 0-20 to 0-16 victory over the Dubs.
"We want to be careful with Eoghan McGettigan as well, Odhran McFadden Ferry and Eoin McHugh.
“Eoin did come on there in the last quarter but he’s that little bit further down the line as playing midfield for Kilcar last term really benefited him."
