The 2025 Cavan senior football championship is set to get underway this evening with holders Crosserlough facing Castlerahan at Kingspan Breffni (8.15pm).

The Kilnaleck men triumphed to their club’s 11th SFC crown last October when they defeated Ramor United in the county final, with goals from Conor Rehill and Stephen Smith (pictured) helping to get them over the line.

This evening, they get their Oliver Plunkett Cup defence up and running in Cavan Town against their counterparts from Ballyjamesduff who exited at the quarter-final stage to Ramor in last year’s competition.

Last year’s runners-up from Virginia are in action on Sunday against Mullahoran at Kingspan Breffni (7pm), while 2023 winners Gowna begin their quest for a 10th county senior title earlier that day at the same venue when they take on Ballinagh (2pm).

Meanwhile, the second round fixtures for the intermediate and junior football championships are also down for decision this weekend in the Breffni County.
