Clare are on the lookout for a new senior football manager after Mark Fitzgerald’s decision to join Tomás Ó Sé’s Kerry U20 management team.

Fitzgerald was appointed as Colm Collins’ successor last year but has opted not to stay on for a second year in charge in the Banner County.

This past season saw Clare narrowly missing out on promotion from Division 2 of the Allianz Football League before reaching the Munster SFC final where they’d go down to Kerry on a 0-23 to 1-13 scoreline in Ennis.

Speaking on his decision to part ways with the team, Tralee native Fitzgerald said that he “couldn't turn down” the chance to work with his own county.

"I'd like to thank Clare County Board for their unwavering support over the year," Fitzgerald said.

"I'd also like to thank the management and backroom team of Clare senior football for their tireless work throughout the season.

"Finally, I'd like to thank the players who have shown huge commitment and dedication since taking up the role.

"I will be taking up a position with the Kerry Under-20 footballers and the opportunity to work with my own county was something I couldn't turn down.

"I enjoyed my time with Clare immensely and I wish them the very best of luck going forward."
