Tom Morrissey has suggested that his Limerick team-mate Seamus Flanagan may have been provoked before a controversial incident involving Cork opponent Niall O’Leary during last Saturday’s drawn Allianz Hurling League Division 1 encounter.
Mobile phone footage of Flanagan appearing to strike O’Leary in the groin area with his hurl could result in a retrospective ban for the Limerick man from the CCCC. Just back from a three-month trip around South America, Morrissey didn’t line out in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh nor see the incident, but believes there may have been more to it than meets the eye.
“I didn’t see any of the incidents, to be honest,” he told reporters at a GPA sponsorship event on Tuesday.
“I know there was a lot of niggly stuff going on around the field. It happens a lot in inter-county games. Some get picked up, some don’t. Whatever happens, happens as a result.”
Morrissey admits to feeling refreshed after his travels.
“Travelling with my girlfriend Elaine, the two of us set off. We got off work, got leave from John Kiely as well for a little while. Saved up our annual leave so a mixture of annual leave and whatever else we needed. Something we’ve always wanted to do and always earmarked,” the wing forward explained.
“Colombia at first, down to Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile across to Brazil to finish up. Seven countries in three months. Fast-paced, got a lot seen. Thoroughly enjoyable.”
