Tullamore’s unhealthy dominance of the Offaly football scene was evident last Thursday when two teams from the club came face-to-face in a MFC ‘A’ quarter-final.

The unique match-up between the Blues’ ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams ended in a victory for the former. It came just a couple of years after two Tullamore teams narrowly avoided meeting each other in the JFC. While Tullamore deserve huge credit for the work they are putting into their underage structures in both football and hurling, it is hardly good for Offaly football to see two teams from the same club in the shake-up for minor honours.

“It’s a testament to the work going in at underage that the club can field two teams at minor level and compete,” the county town club posted on Facebook.

“A lot of this is down to Brendan McDermott who is driving underage football in the club and has been with these boys since U13. The lads are back friends now after the game and hopefully they all can push each other on for the semi-final in two weeks.”
