Down secured a second Ulster U20 football championship title in three seasons after coming from behind to see off Derry (2-11 to 0-9) at the Athletic Grounds last night.
Conor Laverty’s side struck an unaswered 2-5 in the second-half to coast to victory in the end, with Odhran Murdock and Jamie Doran bagging the goals for the winners.
Having had the wind at their backs, Derry took in a deserved 0-6 to 0-4 lead at the break but their Mourne counterparts were level early in the restart thanks to ‘Man of the Match’ Oisin Savage (0-8).
The Oak Leafers hit back with points via Peter McCullagh, Mark Doherty and Matthew Downey but Down would get level again through Savage and hit the net with 10 minutes remaining after Murdock got in behind the Derry defence.
Seven minutes later and substitute Doran would ensure the Danny Murphy Cup for Down with a well-struck goal which he backed up with a point to put some icing on the cake.
