The formbook held firm as Ballinamere and Kilcormac/Killoughey progressed to the Offaly SHC final with semi-final victories over St Rynagh’s and Coolderry respectively.

In the first of yesterday’s Glenisk O’Connor Park semi-final double-header, Ballinamere reached their first final since 1908 thanks to a 1-21 to 2-14 win over St Rynagh’s. Backboned by a host of county seniors and managed by former Laois star Niall Rigney, the north Offaly men came from 1-14 to 2-14 down with 10 minutes remaining, with three points from John Murphy, two from Brian Duignan frees and one from Joe Maher getting them over the line.

Murphy also netted in the 12th minute before St Rynagh’s thundered back into it with goals either side of half-time from Aidan Treacy and Luke O’Connor.

In the other last four tie, champions Kilcormac/Killoughey maintained their imperious form with a 4-21 to 1-11 drubbing of Coolderry. The result was never in doubt with Charlie Mitchell (2-5), Adam Screeney (0-8, 0-6 from frees), Conor Mahon (2-0) and Daniel Hand (0-5) leading the scoring onslaught for K/K whose second team also retained their Offaly SHC ‘B’ title on Saturday.
