Jonny Carlin made his first appearance at any level for Donegal at the age of 29 in last Sunday’s Allianz Football League defeat to Tyrone.

The unlikely and belated debut came in the 63rd minute when the Red Hughs clubman replaced the great Michael Murphy at O’Donnell Park. He acquitted himself well during the few minutes he was on the pitch and will be hoping to get further game-time against Mayo in Castlebar. Carlin came into the reckoning after manager Jim McGuinness made a whopping 11 changes to the team that faced Derry in the previous round.

A former League of Ireland player with Cabinteely and Athlone Town, the Killygordon man won a Wicklow IFC title with Barndarrig in 2023 after returning from ACL surgery, and was part of Oisín McConville’s squad last year before transferring back to his home club.
