Clare edge past Cork towards All-Ireland MHC final date with Waterford

Clare booked their place in the All-Ireland minor hurling championship final against Waterford after edging past Cork with a 0-27 to 1-22 victory at Semple Stadium this afternoon.

Ger O'Connell’s side came through a thrilling contest against the Munster champions at the Thurles venue where two late frees from Paul Rodgers ultimately proved the difference between the teams.

Cork netted a goal through Cormac Deane three minutes into this semi-final, but it was the Banner lads that were better side in the opening half as frees from Rodgers and points from Ben Talty, Ian O’Brien and Liam Murphy helped them to hold a 0-15 to 1-10 lead at half-time.

The Rebels would level it up early in the restart before hitting the front through Craig O’Sullivan’s point, but Clare were able to steady the ship as Rodgers and Talty shot them ahead once more.

Eoghan O’Shea stretched the Banner lead, with Cork keeping the heat on until the last whistle before falling two short in the end.

Clare now look forward to an All-Ireland final date with Waterford on June 28th, with the Deise having defeated Kilkenny by three points at Wexford Park yesterday evening.
