Fermanagh GAA has led the tributes to former county player and selector Paul Coyle who passed away suddenly earlier this week.

One of the leading forwards in the Erne County in the 1980s and ‘90s, Paul won five SFC medals with Devenish as well as a Sigerson Cup with University of Ulster. He later played with Loughmacrory in Tyrone and Swatragh in Derry where he settled down. But he never lost touch with his Fermanagh roots and was part of the management team when they contested their first Ulster SFC final in 26 years against Armagh in 2008.

Poignantly, his passing came just two days after he attended last Saturday’s Tailteann Cup quarter-final between Fermanagh and Antrim at Brewster Park.

"Fermanagh GAA are saddened to hear of the sudden death of our former Devenish St. Mary's and County player Paul Coyle. We extend our deepest sympathy to Paul's wife Sally, children Aoife, Peadar, Niall, Emer, Meabh and Fergal, mother Breege, brothers and sisters Patsy, Caroline, Sharon, Adrian,Declan and Kevin and wider family circle,” a county board statement read.

"While Paul may have moved out of Fermanagh his commitment and passion to the county never waned, he was a regular at our county games and was present in Brewster Park on Saturday evening. He returned to the Fermanagh senior county side in 2007 as selector with former teammate Malachy O'Rourke as manager. He was instrumental in helping to guide Fermanagh to the 2008 Ulster Final, a first in 26 years.

"His passion, friendly chat and big smile will be greatly missed by us all in Fermanagh."
