Replying To Timbertony:  "Forwards let the ball out very handy too, some of which seems to be tactical. Let's be honest, the workrate across the board isn't up to par. Backs can't handle being ran at and pretty much every team tried to target us in the air too. I guess not easy replace likes of Liam Ryan, MOH, P Foley, all who were strong at both."
I was very dissapointed with our workrate particularly in the Dublin game our forwards let the Dublin backs work the ball out far too easily and we got punished

I would say the Offaly match was the only game where I though the workrate was acceptable and it was really too late by then.

We just have to dust ourselves off and look forward now anyway taking a lesson from what Dublin have done. There's absolutely nothing special about them except they're organised, extremely hard working and are well coached in what they're doing. That is a gap I believe we can bridge with the resources at our disposal.

One thing for sure, there can be no messing next year. Heads down and try to hit the ground running in 1b.

We have to be on it from the word go next year. Dublin have shown what is possible. We arent that far behind them but need to show far more consistency and be far more aggressive. We are seen as soft that is the reality of things. We need to attack the league from the off if we are to be in the hunt for promotion

It has to start at club underage level. Our coaching and drills are generally too passive with too little contact, and referees here are maybe too strict on physicality. Chops and pulls definitely shouldn't be allowed, but our refs do seem alot more whistle happy than other county's. The perfect illustration being the Munster Final, which changed altogether when a Wexford ref took it over.

Replying To Viking66:  "Noone seemed to follow him around the pitch in the game I watched. Like all modern intercounty 11s playing high level hurling he roamed. All the counties seem uninclined to detail a man to mark a roaming 11."
So you are saying it was Damien Reck or nobody? How can any set of backs let a player roam around and score 15 points and anybody turn around and say nobody was marking him? In fairness, somebody has to take responsibility either manager or players if that is the case.
My father was at the match and told me it was Damien Reck as well.
Its not like nobody marking a corner back who roamed up the field a few times and grabbed a point or set up a score because we had a man deep, its their key forward and you are saying nobody was marking him while he destroyed us and bet us on his own?

I don't know who was detailed to mark him after Shane Reck was injured. But I'd be 99% sure it wasn't supposed to be Damien. That's not the role he plays for us.

I was going to raise the same point storystash but you got in ahead of me.
Can't understand how a lethal forward like Mannion could be given the freedom of the pitch.
I saw him on one occasion taking a shot and no marker within 30 yards of him. Crazy stuff.
It's the job of the defence to Mark tightly, making it difficult for the forward to get a clean shot on goal.
If we defend like that we are going nowhere.
Mannion must have had a very broad smile on his face when he walked off the field after that game.

Mannion scored 0-11 against Kilkenny in the Leinster final, the difference is the Kilkenny starting forwards scored 3-15 between them.
