Just wondering what would stop Tyrone for example picking Niall morgan as number 15 and let's say Darragh a Canaan as number 1 so when game starts morgan goes into goal obviously he not allowed pick ball off ground but he could receive back passes all the tome as he not goalie and Canavan could stay forward don't think there a rule Whete person wearing number 1 jersey has to actually stay or play in goal definitely don't agree with giving 2 points for a free on 45 ,, Brian Sheehan will come out retirement he be top scorer in country,,,, also bring ball 50 meter forward joke looking at them games last night if they keep the scoring system some of weaker countries get some hammering in championship,,also the thrown in having 2 players on sideline no sense obviously the. Team thar win it just kick it to there free man on sideline ,, if theses are best rules after 36 meeting I'd definitely wonder were they actually in pub for 35 of them ,, 2 many rules is biggest problem and god help club players and referees,,

We got rid of fisted/hand propelled goals when in possession. We should do the same with points imo. Eradicate hand propelled points when in possession. I'd have no problem with flicked goals and points as currently applied, except to consider eradicating hand propelled scores also, when the previous touch from a teammate was also a handpass. These are ugly looking scores, not pleasing on the eye at all.

Players are using the low skill fisted point finish, when booted finishes would demand a much higher skill execution. Plus it would help defenders in a game which will potentially now see 12 attacking 11 and a goalkeeper, so defenders need some leeway too imo.

One thing that could be considered on the scoring front is a bonus point for every 3 goals. Debatable for sure but maybe a compromise on a reward for scoring more goals.
I last night's game Munster were a bit out of the game. If like last night two goals with the traditional scoring system had them back in the game, a third goal with a bonus point on offer makes things a bit interesting.

Only one Div 1 team in Leinster and it showed.

Why does the 40 metre arc stop at the 20 metre line?

This means that an over-the-bar from a position, say 42 metres from the goals and 18 metres from the endline, is worth only 1 point. Seems wrong.

There could be a fine crowd from Cavan there when it is free

I think the 40m arc is sensible from outside the 20m line. I wouldn't be splitting hairs over that one.

Kicking from there, in front of the goal, isn't the greatest of skills though. If they continue arc around to endline and flatten it out near sideline, like basketball 3 point line, we could see the more skilful points kicked from distance wide of the posts. If they want the game to look more skilful and entertaining I don't think 2 points from the arc they used last night adds too much to the entertainment value.

Jim Gavin was just on off the ball and gave very good reasons for rule changes..everything he was saying made since..I'd hope to see the game improving and I think some of the stuff proposed would definitely help..I was surprised last night that some players really struggled to kick pass ..is this due to the way all players can handpass 10 metres but are not able to kick..coaching could really change from these rules..

The 2 point arc I think is too small. Will it stop players stealing yards on free kicks? There are a few laws needed on this arc. Need to be careful or it will become a laugh.

There will be no re examining in the next 5 years

Congress brought in a rule a few years back where playing rules could be changed only every 5 years.

2025 is the year for change
Any changes brought in at special congress get trialled for a year and then there is a vote onto them again this time next eat after the years trial.

If a rule doesn't go into trial in 2025, it will be 2030 before it can be changed.

If football doesn't change in 2025, there will be noone going to matches on 2030.

So if you leave out the changes to the scoring system, it can't be added later.

If you look at the games yesterday, where they better than the shite we had to watch all year (club and county).
If so, the whole lot should go forward for 2025, and then take out the ones that don't work at the end of 2025.

There is nothing to be lost for trying them out"
That's not what Colm Collins said. He said the FRC will stay in place and can recommend changes to the rules for 2026 depending on how they go in 2025.

A Munster player has just been fouled outside the arc but got advantage but then took a shot from inside the arc. It went wide but if he had scored he'd have got one point as it was inside. But he missed so it went back to where the foul occurred and the free went over so they got two points!

This two point arc is a complete distraction, for me at least.

Another point, having Jim Gavin on co commentary is a bit much for me. He's not objective at all. He's just using it to tell us constantly how great all these changes are but it turns he doesn't know some of the details of the new rules himself!! He directly contradicted what the ref was saying in one case which was that there weren't three up in one case but Gavin missed that completely.

If players don't have to claim the advance mark then as has just happened the ref is sometimes going to miss it (no raised arm). Player scored anyway but if he had missed would he or the ref have even realised there should have been a mark awarded? Doubt it. Cue major controversy after the game when this is pointed out on tv.

Cheers Onion Breath. I didn't know the first game was live on telly, second game in RTE2. Found it on News channel. Dead right on Jim Gavin, a man that I like but as an analyst just banging on about the rules is hard to listen to. Having him on with a lifeless Ger Canning is an awful combo. Trying to make the game better to watch needs a livrlier commentator and analyst combo.

In this case for every kickout in the current rules Canavan would have to stand in the small rectangle because he is wearing the goalkeeper jersey.

Paddy Small has retained his "no passing to anyone even John" rule :-)

As someone who was hostile I have to say it was not a bad spectacle. Would need to have a bit of an edge to really assess but an prepared to admit that I was too harsh prematurely.

4 times the referee in the Munster game last night moved the ball forward for dissent/disrespect past the arc. For the 2nd free, the kicker asked to move out to take the 2 points. The other times, the kicker took the free inside the arc and scored a 1 pointer., which resulted in 5 points in total.
It was my understanding that any point from a free scored inside that was initially awarded outside the arc would be a 2 pointer. Was I wrong, or was it changed pre throw in?
