How long will it be before a team decides to play with no designated goalkeeper? if you try to enforce a goalkeeper rule will the same not be demanded for all other positions. We could be facing into interesting times.

The linesman would have to spend the entire match on the half way line so.

2 linesmen, looking across, 1 checks numbers, the other watches the play on their side, mic'd up to the ref and, seemingly, making the calls, according to Coldrick. They're talking about players later 'self-policing' it! Probably be an issue when there's games without linesmen, a lot of games. Let's see it in action firts and what they do. Could well be one of them rules that won't be ratified.

What percentage of games overall would have no neutral linesmen or umpires?
Will whatever new rules are introduced apply to both Club and County, adult and underage or
Will they be trialled for a year at adult Inter County?

These rules aren't worth a toss if they can't be easily implemented at the lowest level of football…. Gavin and the sleep enduser have shown complete contempt for club football with these ridiculous rule changes…. They must think every game is taking place in Croke Park… Clowns..!

Regardless of whether they are trialled for a year or not all rules should apply to both club and county or the whole thing would be a total farce , if it's not already that…!

They have to be ratified yet. Some will pass and some might not

There are the wrongs games to trial these rules. You've thrown 30 players together without any real tactics, there bound to be very open. Get two teams who have been together and test them that way.

A well worked point from 20M 0r 30M should not be of a lesser value than a pot shot from 40M.That is the rule I am most worried about.

One referee has to determine offside in those sort of relevant games as well.
Is it not self policing! A team will draw the refs attention if players are straying back or forward.

Bang on. Also it's being trialled with elite players. 40 metre points no bother to many of them. They should also trial these rules across each grade of club football down to junior B teams.

Was also wondering this. I presume it's the normal 5 since nothing has been said otherwise. Unlimited would ruin it in a way, if there's constantly fresh players on it's not a proper look into how the new rules will work. But with each province having a 30 man panel I'd expect them to put out 2 fairly different teams between Saturday and Sunday as bringing a fella to Dublin to get no game time wouldn't be great.

Half the reason for all these rule changes is the coaching obsession with high percentage shots and working it to the D.

Mick Bohan tells a story about when he started to coach the Dublin senior footballers as a skills coach. In one of the first sessions he set it up so all the players would be practicing kicking points from the top of the D.

Dermot Connolly stood further out near the 45 and starting kicking them over when Bohan asked him why he wouldn't joint the rest of them.

Connolly informed Mick that the rest of them might have a range in near the D, but his range was out near the 45.

What we need is a lot more D Connollys kicking long range points and a lot less corner backs running into the D for a well worked score or ******* handpassed point.

Elite players in a experimental tournament.
The only focus players will have is on implementing the trial rules.
How will they go in a competitive Club game where players' sole focus will be on winning the game?
That said they have to be trialed somewhere.

I think they should keep the Railway Cup going now every October, it fills a gap and keeps Gaelic games high profile, players no longer involved with their clubs in provincial Championship might be glad of the honour of playing for their province.
Looing forward to the games this evening, it should be a big improvement for a spectacle and a bit more excitement at least.

Weather will be poor in Drumcondra tonight and tomorrow. Is attendance of >10K for tonight and >15K tomorrow being optimistic when games are on TG4 and RTE?

Connolly probably prefered to take a shot from far out because there was more room and less pressure on him and he had plenty of power.A lot of good skilled players might not have that range. How many points did the likes of Peter Canavan,Bernard Brogan and many more brilliant players score from outside 40M.

And I just see the 2 points are for frees and 45s as well.
