Shandonagh, Tubberclair and Milltown are unquestionably very strong sides for intermediate level. By your remarkable logic Athlone should play St. Malachy's to decide relegation to intermediate!!! Bring your proposal to your club for Convention and see the support you get

The 3 teams you've mentioned as very strong Intermediate teams would all struggle to survive Senior next year. Shandonagh went down last year after 2 years. Tubberclair were knocked out by Multy last year, it's all hype and bluster about them. Garrycastle were an exception. The two Intermediate Sections are closer in standard than the two Senior Sections would be. Any team that embarrassingly loses all their group games should be forced to win a game to stay in the grade.

Haven't seen any games in other grades only senior so The Downs by 7/8, Kinnegad by 3/4. Iarmhisamhi (Westmeath) - Posts: 22 - 07/10/2025 21:35:28 2638896 Link 0 |
So Milltown who drew final with Garrycastle last year would struggle to survive in senior but Garrycastle won section B!! You also reckon section B in intermediate is close to A, that's section B with Kilbeggan, Maryland and Ballymore?? Fascinating level of analysis Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2382 - 07/10/2025 23:58:19 2638907 Link 2 |
The Downs v St Loman's final has been called from the start of the Championship. The 'experts' can dress up the 2 Semi Finals all they want. The fact is The Downs finished the group with a maximum of 10 points, 5 more than their nearest rivals. They will comfortably beat Shamrocks again. St Loman's haven't been as solid as The Downs but they have already beaten a Jekyll and Hyde Kinnegad by 8 or 9 points without the 2 McCartan's. What's going to change?

Intermediate is so hard to call. Any of those 4 teams on their day could beat any of the others. I think Tubberclair will scrape through. The other game is really a toss of a coin. It will either be Shandonagh by 1pt or Milltown by 10pts. Depends on which Shandonagh turns up on the day. Meridian (Westmeath) - Posts: 694 - 08/10/2025 09:40:46 2638913 Link 0 |
Thank god you're not in charge of any championship structures. Ridiculous suggestion

Championship structures are good, the best teams at all grades still come to the top but the relegation format isn't perfect if a team loses all 5 of their games and can still qualify for a quarter final in the same championship the year after.

Intermediate B is closer to Intermediate A than Senior B is closer to Senior A. Milltown drew with Multyfarnham who drew with Maryland who beat CFCW who beat Milltownpass who beat Kilbeggan who beat Castledaly. It depends on how you look at it. Would you get such an assortment of results between Senior B and Senior A teams? The answer is no. And no, Milltown wouldn't win Section B like Garrycastle have, as I said Garrycastle were an exception.

I miss Caulry.

I know. But i'd say we wont have too long to wait until the Caulry supporters on here start talking about who they will be playing in the final next year. They'll never learn.

They can still do that in your format as well, if you're proposing to have a playoff. Nothing wrong with the senior and intermediate as they are in my opinion, almost every team having something to play for coming into the final round of games is great. iarmhi_an_mhaith (Westmeath) - Posts: 285 - 08/10/2025 19:52:46 2638990 Link 0 |
Really looking forward to the weekend. The Intermediate has been brilliant and is still anybodys at this stage. I will predict an All Milltown final. I dont think the senior semi finals will be handy wins for Lomans or The Downs. There is a weight of expectation on Lomans and The Downs whereas nothing is expected of Kinnegad or Mullingar. You just never know in knockout football. JosephsvMullingar and Ballnagore v Lomans are close to call in the junior

Interesting odds. 7 / 1 for Mullingar to win is big. If they were playing Lomans what prices would they offer ? The bookies cant see past The Downs anyway A_Chairde (Westmeath) - Posts: 324 - 08/10/2025 22:00:07 2639002 Link 0 |
