Replying To Claretandblue:  "The winners of the amalgamated schools competition qualify for the first round of the Leinster Colleges A senior hurling championship where they could be drawn against the likes of St. Kieran's Kilkenny, Colaiste Eoin Dublin or Kilkenny CBS. That level of exposure would be great experience for young Westmeath hurlers. The final of the amalgamated competition is a home game versus Laois schools or Dublin South. There was a huge crowd in Clonkill last night, great set of new lights there, Cormac McKeogh was outstanding with Kian Loughlin also excellent from frees and in general play, Darragh Kenny was back after injury and scored the clinching goal, they're missing Conor Leech whose injured but their panel is strong. Mullingar CBS had 10-11 starters last night with Kilbeggan, Rochfortbridge, Marist and Finian's also represented."
Thanks for the clarification Claret. Very little information available online regarding the competition.
So this is the round robin stage by the sound of it.

St Fechins from Louth bet Brownstown today in Leinster JHC."
Absolutely remember Brownstown have 22 players so these guys with tiredness and injuries have had a long year. The underage scene is hugely encouraging. The people in clubs, schools and admin areall doig a great job.As i speak its half time in Cusack and Castletown are doing WH hurling proud.

Replying To Dheen:  "Without a doubt, the credit must go to these clubs and the people putting in the hard work. They are the ones supplying the talent and then their seems to be a good structure in place in Mullingar CBS in particular for them to continue to develop and improve."
Well done Castletown. Fantastic result for Westmeath Hurling

What an amazing result for castletown and westmeath hurling...it is without a doubt the best result for a westmeath club in the club championship ever,it surpasses raharney beating coolderry in 2010...I couldn't believe what I was hearing on the radio, go forward now and try and win Leinster and put westmeath hurling firmly on the map.... congratulations and full support as always from me!!!

What a performance worth every one of the 11 points.O Brien,Clarke,Murphy,Aonghus and a Shane Clavin back to his very best all brilliant in a huge team display.Probably Kilcormac between them and a Leinster final.Important now to downplay this next weekend is what matters.

Unreal result. They just seemed to take over after the red card and dominated till the final whistle. What odds were they ?

The greatest day in Castletown's history. Newcomers to Cusack Park would have assumed the team in black and amber were from Kilkenny, this wasn't just a win, it was a comprehensive one, Thomastown supporters and management were just waiting for the final whistle to put them out of their misery, every black and amber player played his part, Peter Clarke, Liam Varley. Aonghus, Niall and Johnny B were superb but this was a team effort.

Barry Kelly's decision to postpone the 1st game is bearing fruit for Westmeath hurling now, I'm not convinced Castletown would have bet the Gaels in the muck, call me mr hindsight but I had a strong feeling after the county final that they would put it up to thomastown, but nobody could have anticipated a hammering. That's 2 outstanding performances in a row from Castletown in the Gaels and thomastown. A lot of posters here felt the county final display that the Gaels were poor instead of Castletown being awesome. This year they have brought a ferocious intensity to match the abundance of classy stick men

Stood next to a Kilkenny man who marvelled at Castletown's classy hurling. Comprehensive winners with Peter Murphy, Johnny Bermingham, Jack Murphy etc brilliant in defence. Up front Niall O'Brien, David O'Reilly, Liam Varley, Peter Clarke and Aonghus Clarke showed their class and Thomastown were no match. They need to bring themselves back down to earth quickly as Jobber said and focus on next weekend in Mullingar and one win away from a Leinster final in Croke Park. I'm sure Seoirse Bulfin was impressed with what he saw from Castletown in the county final and today as well.

Good to hear from you jobber.

Great result.

All you lads needed was a Carlow half back to get the standards up.

I hear he's hurling well.
