Donegal are too reserved at times. They need to cut loose and be more direct. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9818 - 14/07/2024 18:06:14 2559026 Link 1 |
What kinda nonsense is that to come out with. The Ulster trophy is still very shiny, if anyone from Fermanagh wants to see it, come to Donegal and we'll show it to U. Great year for Donegal, just came up short after a Titanic battle with a very good Galway team. Certainly no shame in losing to them by a couple points. Plenty to look forward to, a lot more than many counties have

Two bad wides at end and why was McBrearty taken off, small margins. jacktheboy (Donegal) - Posts: 480 - 14/07/2024 18:25:29 2559036 Link 0 |
Our lack of a bench got badly exposed at this level of the championship, something I have no doubt Jim will fix as he scans the play during the club championship. Nobody who came off the bench added anything, and we're carrying a lot of deadwood there. Mogan didn't turn up, but can't fault him overall as he was pivotal in our success this year. Patton's kickouts might be the amongst the best in the country, but his concentration lets him down a mile, and has a costly mistake in almost every game. Great to see Paddy, Langan and Oisin firing on all cylinders...hopefully we'll see them back in at least the same form next year and hope that Ban's injury isn't too serious. Great year all round, when we think about last year's low ebb. Looking forward to seeing our lads strutting their stuff against the best of them in Division 1 next year. Tir chonaill abu!!! Wasted energy typing that drivel. What does it even mean…

The gallan free was a big turning point, they went up the field and went ahead instead of us, a few balls into the keepers hands also. Did not think we got any calls from the referee today either, you could see from the McHugh over carrying call, that we were not going to get much. But all in all the game was there for the taking the last 15 and Galway produced the goods. That comes from experience of being in an all Ireland the last few years. With McGuiness in charge hopefully we get that experience and get over the line in the next few years. The keeper (Donegal) - Posts: 711 - 14/07/2024 19:22:04 2559061 Link 1 |
Not sure why u introduced fairies as they r in every county but to the game itself I have to say that Galway had the edge and indeed the quality players hence gaining their place in the final. I doubt if they will be beaten by Armagh. Can I ask why was McBrearty taken off at a key time in the game? It seemed a strange decision.

As a neutral I agree regardingthe referee, I counted poor decisions against Donegal and none v Galway. Moving a free in for dissent so late in the game shows a shocking lack of empathy for the adrenaline rushing at that stage. Donegal ever so slightly the better team I felt but the soft goal, and Gallan miss the key moments

I'm guessing McGuinness reckoned extra time was on the cards (not unreasonable at that point, when Galway were really struggling to breakdown ye're defence) and pulled him ashore to give him a chance to recharge before being brought back on. Hard luck lads. A real battle and two enjoyable teams to watch. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3150 - 14/07/2024 19:53:42 2559088 Link 3 |

Galway got a lucky break with the goal but that's about it, it was enough to get them over the line. Dissent has to be ruled upon the same regardless of first or last minute. Ref played 2 minutes in addition to the 4 he started .

Don't want to take over the Donegal page with Galway talk, so this is the last from me. Wasn't a soft goal. Was a difficult one to defend; falling too short for the goalie to gather with a Galway player already barreling in, and the goalie understandably expecting him to effect its flight somehow, so caught flat when he didn't. Odd goal, sure, but not soft. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3150 - 14/07/2024 20:30:59 2559102 Link 0 |
Well done to Galway and hard luck our lads. I genuinely believe the best team won today. We should feel proud of our team's performance, regardless of our lack of scoring in the 2nd half. There are minor details in the game that are points of conversation, such as the goal in the 1st half, McHugh's 6 steps when he was breaking tackles and attacking, the free for handling the ball on the ground at the end. In general, the ref was ok and didn't have much to do. I think that if you are going to blow for 6 steps, then you have to blow for 6 steps for every player who does it in the entire game thereafter. Good post. That mchugh free was a harsh enough one and yes he overcarry but he did as he was being pulled at. Ref was overall ok, just got nothing from him. When Galway went all out defence near the end Donegal just couldn't break them down. I suppose fatigue and lack of a little composure came into play. Donegal can afford pretty much zero injuries so not having Conor O'Donnell was also a pity as he has a scoring threat and then ban going off was also a loss as he was causing problems with his running. Ultimately Galway deserved the win and think when the baton down the hatches Armagh will struggle to break them down in the final. I'm also glad to hear mcguinness completely dismiss this year one nonsense. Ulsterchamps_32 (Donegal) - Posts: 835 - 14/07/2024 22:08:23 2559135 Link 1 |
Hard luck to ye lads, It was a tight game and ye kicked some wonderful scores. We defended heroically in the last 15 minutes to keep ye out. Its small margins in these big games. JahTribe (Galway) - Posts: 155 - 14/07/2024 22:24:43 2559140 Link 1 |

Galway made two subs in injury time and took over a minute to get keeper up to take the 45. Galway edged it surely, but odd to see marginal technical fouls given against one team only. Certainly Galway players took 6 steps at times and reclaimed ball on deck similar to Thompson. SurelyToGod (Donegal) - Posts: 455 - 14/07/2024 23:54:07 2559160 Link 0 |
My god . Because there was 4 it should be blowing at 4? Do we not include subs or injuries in the 4 that is allocated? When you play the game you'll know about more than the 4 that's said! I've seen a good few of these today in Dub. ESP a few asking what time the game will be over because they're meeting their friends for the Euros! Rant over after a long day in the capital and I've still to get the flight tomorrow to Carrickfinn. God help me. Into Camden street I go. tickets (Donegal) - Posts: 103 - 15/07/2024 00:00:25 2559163 Link 0 |
Fantastic year for Donegal. I think we put a huge shift in early in the season to get promotion and win Ulster. It was a very tough Ulster to beat Derry, Tyrone and Armagh. The season fizzled out today and we certainly looked like a team with a flat battery and no charger on the bench. Fantastic effort by all throughout the year and some change in 12 months. You wouldn't get softer in a toy shop for god sake… A goalkeeper should never take his eye of the ball
