My point exactly, rem cars parked all over the place in 2019, a total mess getting out of it.

Castlebar can get fairly mad on matchday alright. Heading for Donegal you might be better off parking out the Bohola Road, a bit of a walk to the pitch. Can head to Knock via Kiltimagh and on to Sligo or Carrick.

People will always find a reason to moan no matter where the venue is - it's just in some people DNA. eunans4ever (Donegal) - Posts: 1695 - 05/06/2024 09:05:52 2549608 Link 0 |
Castlebar it is, I really like the stadium but the parking/traffic can be a nightmare. I'd imagine the traffic won't be as bad as we aren't playing Mayo as they have a huge following. What would the expected crowd be, maybe 10k? I think we will bring a big following as the fans are really behind this team. Saturday afternoon isn't ideal for everyone with work and other commitments but what can we do. Already looking forward to it. Jez you'll be glad to hear I'm agreeing with you. Never thought I would say that. I must be mellowing.

Its the fairest neutral venue there is, unless you were to pick Hyde park. The problem we face with this pitch is its small size as someone else pointed out. But really, this game will kill or cure our season. We will be 2 weeks rested and hopefully have Jason McGee back. I havent heard of any other injuries, so we are in good shape going into this. That's surely a bit patronising, "a silly defeat" Well done Cork

Tickets have gone on sale today from Ticketmaster for the Clare game. It looks like general admission so get there early for a good seat. Green_Gold (Donegal) - Posts: 1906 - 05/06/2024 15:19:24 2549725 Link 0 |
Hi TheRock2121: That's a big statement. Don't think anybody was messing around or experimenting.

You've been fairly patronising yourself on this Donegal thread of late. Great to see a Sligo man take such a sudden interest when we lose after a great run.

Castlebar is not the worst for traffic you just need to know where to park. No worse than BallyBofey on an average Friday. New outer dual carriageway bypass around the town now too. Get there early and face for home. What will be at the game, 7-8k? No problem. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11581 - 05/06/2024 16:06:52 2549735 Link 0 |
Where would you say is best to park then, just along the road into town? I parked in one of the retail parks last time and it was a nightmare, complete standstill. I was half tempted to go via Ballina and pontoon so I'm coming in a different road from everyone else but maybe that's a bit ridiculous altogether.

Look I just think describing the loss to Cork as "silly" is a bit disrespectful to Cork. I know the concession of 3 goals would make Donegal feel the result was maybe of their own making and silly but by those criteria if Donegal's loss to Cork was a silly loss then their win against Derry was equally a silly win. In my opinion on both days Cork and Donegal deserved their victories. And finally I'm not a Sligo man. sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 899 - 05/06/2024 17:01:33 2549745 Link 1 |
Approaching Castlebar on the N5 turn left at the first new roundabout up the N5 dual carriageway. Take the 1st exit (Breaffy/Claremorris) and turn right over the flyover. Then you have a choice at the next roundabout…1st exit brings you in via the woodies/Harvey Norman retail park. you could park there. Or take the 2nd exit and come in by Baxter and park along the road there or one off the off streets/roads as there are plenty of parking spaces along and in the retail and industrial units there. I'd guess the majority of the Donegal traffic will go straight into town at the new roundabout that's why I'd advise on above route. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11581 - 05/06/2024 17:09:46 2549750 Link 2 |

hope this game is as straightforward as it should be, no reason why we cant beat them by 10 or more eddieSize5Balls (Donegal) - Posts: 133 - 06/06/2024 00:51:05 2549782 Link 0 |
The Derry game cannot be really compared to this Cork one in my opinion. First of all, in the Derry game, while it was Derrys mistakes that lead to our goals, it was the same mistake multiple times by the same player. We took advantage and we targeted it clearly from throw in. We were double digits up and Derry scored a few without reply in garbage time while we waited for the final whistle. And tbh I think we beat them regardless of these mistakes, they have been terrible so far and could go out to Westmeath next weekend.. In the Cork game, it was individual mistakes for the first two (both were well taken finished too but we should have done better) And their last goal was comical and very fortunate for them We clawed our way back to level, had the ball and got turned over very harshly by the ref and that was pretty much it. I respect Cork but we are miles better and if we played them tomorrow we would win comfortably. If Paddy buries one of his two first point from play (which he should have), its a different game I understand thats not exactly the point you are making but considering the teams we beat, and how we hockeyed Cork in the league, i understand some fans calling it a silly loss eddieSize5Balls (Donegal) - Posts: 133 - 06/06/2024 00:59:01 2549783 Link 1 |
Current round robin competition is a farce. Donegal haven't gained any benefit from winning Ulster, had some battles in the provincials whilst Kerry strolled through Munster. Kerry's historical dominance of the province is reflected in that the 2 Mickos..O' Connell and O' Dwyer as well as Pat Spillane have 12 Munster medals each. Leinster is totally dominated by Dublin, and reflected by Stephen Cluxton's 18 Leinster medals.Cork will take it though, and now have a good chance of topping the group and going directly to quarter finals. Big change from early in the season where a narrow win against Fermanagh kept them out of Tailteann Cup! Ryanteam (Cork) - Posts: 532 - 06/06/2024 03:57:20 2549790 Link 0 |
All fair points Eddie. And I would have Derry as favourites if they played Cork again but in sport it's on the day and I suppose Derry and others are lucky to have another chance. Another point I'd make is that this Cork team have a lot of really good players and the mystery is why they only get a performance every now and then. In general considering the quality they have they are the most underperforming squad out there. On their rare days they can test anyone.
