Ulster Finals should be in ulster end off. naomh_conaill_4 (Donegal) - Posts: 495 - 09/05/2024 19:30:31 2543899 Link 1 |
100% right, the final needs to stay in Ulster instead of taking everyone to Dublin to play in a half empty stadium.

Clones has been a great home for Ulster GAA, but the benefits of re-homing to a new Casement Park outweigh any sentimentality we may have for St. Tiernach's. Clones can be a great Ulster SF, even All-Ireland QF venue. SurelyToGod (Donegal) - Posts: 432 - 10/05/2024 10:35:46 2543944 Link 0 |
Well the proposed New Casement doesn't really address problems for many Ulster GAA fans either, such long travel time from western Counties, low capacity of 34,000. Like for years Clones was hosting 36,000 fans for Ulster final, we needed a 40,000+ stadium for big occassion, but Casement is limited due to its location. Rumour has it that Clones capacity was reduced recently from 36,000 to 29,000 to take the bad look of the new Casement proposal being limited to 34,000 capacity. Also lack of parking in West Belfast means that most fans are expected to use the Park & Ride facilities at Toome etc Typical GAA, with rubbish like GAA Go etc, they don't prioritize the hardcore fans who travel all year round to games and contribute massive funding. Instead they focus on what makes them a quick few extra quid and focus on concerts or other non-GAA stuff. Like we need a big venue, reducing the capacity of all other grounds to make Casement look better is silly. Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1193 - 10/05/2024 13:49:17 2543977 Link 0 |
All the best to Jim and the boys on Sunday. Very excited about the game. Will we win it I'm pretty confident we will. We have the better manager and In my mind the better players. My only worry is that Armagh have a better squad. Heading up tomorrow afternoon staying in Monaghan town . I've no doubt we'll be heading into pettigo with the Anglo Celt on Sunday evening.. get the colours out this donegal team have given us a great year so far. And hopefully there's more to come. rorysboys (Donegal) - Posts: 2553 - 10/05/2024 13:52:26 2543979 Link 1 |
I would echo your thoughts. I have no doubt it will be a tough game. But when it comes down to it I do think we have better footballers overall (a view shared by Peter Canavan on a recent podcast). I can see us just edging it by a couple of points, something like 1-13 - 1-11. Best of luck to Jim and the lads, and safe travels to all who are attending. Many county grounds around the country have had capacity reduced in recent years as part of Health and Safety audits, so I don't think it's anything to do with Casement Park, that Clones was reduced. Pearse Stadium used to have a capacity of 34K. It's now 26K. There are many more which have had a few thousand lopped off, including the Gaelic Grounds. Why does the Leinster final get a neutral ref from Cavan and the Ulster final gets a Monaghan ref? Saynothing (Tyrone) - Posts: 2144 - 10/05/2024 21:42:38 2544015 Link 0 |
Isn't it standard enough that the Ulster final has Ulster refs I remember it was Hurson who reffed the 2022 final CCFabu (Donegal) - Posts: 127 - 11/05/2024 10:52:32 2544035 Link 0 |
By holding the All Ireland Series draw before the Provincial Finals they have greatly eroded the pool of referees they can choose from. For example, you couldn't have a referee for the Ulster Final from Cork, Clare, Tyrone, Derry, Galway or Westmeath. Of the Senior Championship panel, that's Conor Lane, Sean Hurson, Barry Cassidy and James Molloy all ruled out of the Ulster Final. I'm sure the other Provincial Finals tell a similar story.

"Rumour has it that Clones capacity was reduced recently from 36,000 to 29,000 to take the bad look of the new Casement proposal being limited to 34,000 capacity" Yeah that 100% sounds like a rumour alright. get a grip. majority of the province lives closer to casement than clones as another poster mentioned pearse as an example many stadiums have had capacity downgraded and i doubt casement came into any of those decisions Whestofthewest (Clare) - Posts: 177 - 11/05/2024 15:34:00 2544074 Link 0 |
I doubt anyone who posts on this thread will live long enough to see Antrim in an Ulster Senior men's football final. The next biggest populated counties being Down, Derry, Tyrone and Donegal. Clones wouldn't be too far off a central location for those four counties and they'd have more of a chance of getting to an Ulster final.

Safe travels to all the fans heading for Clones, hopefully the Anglo Celt will be back with us in the hills tonight, expecting a big game from Oisin Gallen, great to have Patton back in the nets as well, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2994 - 12/05/2024 11:05:14 2544219 Link 0 |
Safe trip to all on route and for the journeys back. Best of luck to Jim and the lads. I would love to be in Clones but wasn't to be. On the Tyrone game while not the best performance it will bring on many of the players mentally. It was a big game to come through especially without Patton. Tyrone got it right tactically on the day but Donegal found a way. Donnelly and Morgan were top drawer but the likes of Ryan, Mogan and Jason really turned up in the second half and extra time. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2807 - 12/05/2024 14:10:38 2544262 Link 0 |
When are officials going to make the player who wins the mark shoot from the correct spot? Armagh mark in injury time the player stole 5 or 6 yards infield. Cheating. Teams need to shoot in injury time. Saynothing (Tyrone) - Posts: 2144 - 12/05/2024 17:40:57 2544315 Link 0 |

4 times we played Armagh this year, McGeeney didn't rate or respect us in January for the McKenna Cup, he sent a development team (when his A team played a challenge game), we handed them their arses that night, but Jesus I enjoyed that much more today, the penalties make it even better. Anything else now is a bonus.
