Paddy Maguire has retired and Jack Heslin is travelling. Donal Wrynn got married in the last couple of weeks I assume he will commit after honeymoon. Tom Prior has a hamstring issue. Not sure about Berine, Plunkett or Flynn's availability. Good to see Jack Gilheaney back

Be realistic. All of those Galway lads are good footballers, way ahead of ours in conditioning, ability, tactical awareness, etc. 10 pts+ win for Galway.

Is this a strong Leitrim team?

To be honest it's not Leitrim at full strength.. but what is us at full strength? Realistically that half forward line and half back line will have changed come the league. Disappointed not to see Gaffney get a go at goals

I would call that a reasonably experienced/strong team, seeing that it is essentially a 3rd string side Galway are putting out we should be looking for a result, a hammering would predict a very poor year ahead and the end of Moran's tenure gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 567 - 12/01/2024 15:45:44 2519873 Link 0 |
The Galway team named is mostly young players or club players whereby their conditioning can't be way ahead of Leitrim team with loads with senior inter county experience under their belts. This is a prime opportunity for Leitrim to win tonight

Disappointing result against a 3rd string. It's going to be a long year

Waiting for the comments and silly contributions celebrating a two point defeat against Galway's third string. timeforachange (Leitrim) - Posts: 88 - 12/01/2024 21:05:33 2519911 Link 1 |

Very poor result by Leitrim and huge score to concede against a 3rd string Galway team. Drax_the_destroyer (UK) - Posts: 250 - 12/01/2024 21:31:19 2519917 Link 0 |
Never thought I would ever join this forum although always enjoy reading posts from every county. As a Leitrim man living in Galway for years reading the posts about a Galway 3rd string and Andy Morans team should be winning easily just makes no sense. I watched the match and Leitrim played really well with some players out injured to come in. The most negative comments always on Leitrim site come from a few people with hundreds of posts and in one case 1000s of posts. These lads must have many medals to their name or have been some of the all time great managers ever in Leitrim Those lads that played with Galway tonight are strong senior footballers and I thought Leitrim did really well in an entertaining game. So get behind Andy and management for the league and stop knocking the team. It is fairly obvious with the number of posts of some people they are a little aggrieved for one reason or another. Get over it lads probably not good enough. For me I will support Leitrim through thick and thin, good days and bad days and will respect every manager and player that will put in the effort for our county. 99% of the county do. Roll on the league and let's see what happens. I think it could be a good one and if not sure Monday will still follow Sunday Leitrimalways (Leitrim) - Posts: 2 - 12/01/2024 21:53:51 2519920 Link 4 |
Maybe he'll take over his native county after us.

Conceding 2-18 is a serious positive to take away yeah unreal. And with what you say injures have a laugh there's about 3 players to come back into that team. The last 2 years we've been facing a crisis in the defence and unfortunately we haven't been dealing with that. Andy decided to start a young 19 year old at wing back tonight who comes off at half time and Evan Sweeney who's an out and out corner forward makes sense doesn't it. Then when we could've got the chance to grab the game in the last 15 mins Ryan Orourke is found in the half back line also makes a pile of sense.

What a brilliant post by a genuine supporter. The standard of football on display was excellent and it was very entertaining. I thought Leitrim played some great football and while they will be disappointed to miss several goal chances and rue some turnovers which lead to scores they definitely showed they will be competitive in the League. As for the usual whingers and begrudgers on this site they should go and have a talk with themselves.Ask themselves what can they do to improve Leitrim football. This panel has been doing gym work for the past 6 months.I am hopeful they will get there. Once again well done for the post. joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 509 - 12/01/2024 23:30:59 2519934 Link 1 |
Admirable post. When the game was over I was thinking to myself they will be queuing up to vent their annoyance at the Leitrim set up, because let's face it they had already started the process in the run up to the game.

The Dome is nice and colourful to watch a game but it's not Gaelic Football. It's a shoot out Basketball style and should be viewed as no more than a workout. Having said that, London obviously have worked out a proper defence by keeping Mayo to such a low score in that environment. Leitrim and Sligo should be looking at Londons strategy for future games against d1 and d2 opposition SligoScot (Sligo) - Posts: 39 - 13/01/2024 10:49:01 2519959 Link 0 |
The game itself is really just an exhibition game or glorified challenge game. Straight up I'd be disappointed that Leitrim didn't get the result with the team they had on the pitch. 80% of that team is on year 3 of Andy Morans project and played a Galway development team. Leitrim should have won the game on the night as they missed several really good goal opportunity's. I still believe Leitrim can take a lot out of the game. Some of the points scoring was excellent and I thought Leitrim looked sharp fitness wise. Conceding 2-18 is a worry but on when the league kicks off in a couple of weeks conditions will be completely different lugdrum (Leitrim) - Posts: 357 - 13/01/2024 10:50:49 2519960 Link 1 |
