Well done Ross, won fair and square, and may not be finished yet in 2026. As for Galway, I am afraid we have over rated a few lads. The Ryan Roche selection was bizarre. He played a bit during then league but was usually subbed off. Then starts a Connacht final out of nowhere. Bar the early catch he had he was completely anonymous. Not having a go at the lad as he's young but I don't think management did him any favours today. Not much between the teams but some of the misses in the first half, and their were a lot, came back to bite us. Even the amount of goal chances, Kelly missed another 2 and Hernon. Under pressure at the end I thought we struggled, even that line ball by Daly, crucial time when we needed the ball, not a long 50/50 ball which we lost. My biggest worry today is that if you take Walsh, Comer, McDaid and Conroy out of the equation we would have been nowhere near them. Didn't like to see McDaid and Walsh struggle late on, we really need them fit. On the line, what was the idea of starting Roche, one great ball in and never done again. I've said it numerous times on here Galway seriously lack pace in half back line and very few scores come from there most people who follow Galway football could have prib picked 13 of team that started last Oct no point in playing lads in league then gone Mcdonnagh second top score for Galway this year not even mske the 26 o connaghile had great game v Donegal in half forward line no game in fairness it was good game but looking forward 2/3 years Galway not producing top quality players have found no new forwards in best part 10 years would definitely have being good win 2 day but in reality most people know Galway not in with any real chance of all Ireland Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 1152 - 10/05/2026 20:17:58 2672100 Link

No Connacht minor title since 2018. No Connacht U20 since 2020, We were lucky to get Thompson last year. Some good individual players at underage but not very many that look like potential senior stars. One or two will emerge but it's slim pickings. Eye has been off the ball at underage. In an abstract way it was quite a performance by Galway to score 2 goals 22 points with possession wins off total kickouts of only 25% approx! Imagine what they might score off 40/45% possession (a modest expectation)! It seemed to me that today we had the better players and were the better team but as the saying goes "you can't win without the ball". It is a bit tragic we can't fix the primary possession issue. A full forward can only play as well as the ball that's kicked into him. Roche's purpose was to field balls that were kicked in long. Galway decided to kick in one long ball to him which he caught and laid off for a goal. What more can he do in fairness to the young lad. Someone said Barry mchugh could be worth a trial as a goalie? I'm starting to think that would be a feasable option. His ball striking and shooting is immense. Carroll was brilliant for them on the restarts, questions have to be asked why that man was let go from the Galway set up. We did very well to get 6 points up minutes to go, but we just couldn't get hand on ball to slow the game up and play on our terms. Disappointing. It reminded me of Eoin Liston's deft touches in his prime. He is also mobile, spreads himself, and gets challenges in. The major issues were further outfield. Definitely a project worth pursuing. Instead of trying to find a loose man. Daly did it once but I think there was another. Maybe a sign that there was nobody moving looking for the ball.
