Replying To Drax_the_destroyer:  "Poor Cora on the Sunday game trying to make out the officials was against Mayo is mildly humorous"
You think the penalty was a clear and right decision? She said the missed chances after it cost us the game.

Brilliant day. 4 in a row should be enjoyed. Not that long ago Mayo were doing it in Connacht and Galway were in the wilderness. Cycles of life.
For what's it worth, the team id start vs dublin, just to freshen it up and try to manage lads loads for the group stage
Gleeson
McGrath Hernon Glynn
McHugh Silke O'Flaherty
Conroy Kelly
Darcy Tierney McDaid
Walsh Finnerty Thompson
Maher went off with the ankle so let him take a couple weeks if it is needed. A loss to Dublin is not fatal but I think that team plus the bit of punch would be more than capable of beating the Dubs.

Replying To LárBáire:  "Great contest today, came out the right side of it thanks to a bit more composure in the last 10 minutes when it was there to be won. Conroy picked off some beauties, thought McDaid was in with a shout for MOTM too really finding his form when it matters.

Hopefully Mahers injury isn't too serious, would be great to have him back in two weeks time. Did PJ say anything post match regarding the injury status of the others on the panel?"
Maher is just a dead leg seemingly so no bother there. Saw Shane on the field after the game but hard to tell how far away he is. Joyce didn't give much away on whether him or Comer would be in for Dublin game

Replying To smallfrank:  "Cora Staunton on the Sunday Game basically saying that the penalty was soft, the point was potentially worth 2 that Gleeson touched. Great analysis. She should have thrown in that if Liam McHale wasn't sent off in 96, Mayo would have won Sam"
What's incorrect in whst she said? It was clearly a 2 pointer for a start.
Congratulations to Galway. It was a 50:50 game. Certainly wasn't the dominating perfornance Galway supporters expected, Mayo could have easily have won the game.
It will be interesting to see if Galway can make a dent beyond the group stages.

A very chaotic and nervous match for much of the time by both teams, with both sides trowing wild passes close to opposition goal on quite a few occasions but the Galway sideline substitution decisions particularly Hernon and Cooke brought a calmness and a structure that didn't seem there for much of the second half up until their introduction, the team as a whole benefited as a result from a steadiness when in possession that resulted in better decision making and more assured score taking.Well done all a big step up from similar problems over the previous few years.

Indeed. About the only thing missing from her 'analysis' was that Neilan didn't give Mayo enough frees.

Replying To galwayman2:  "Great to dig out that win without the two boys up front. It wasn't looking good with ten mins to go.
Plus Neilan gave Mayo a succession of soft frees .throughout the game.
We need to improve a lot though going forward.
Sean Mulkerrin should be nowhere near the tram going forward - not up to this level.
He's dreadful in possession"
Thought Mulkerrin actually defended very well. Won some ball and made some interceptions. He's not great on the ball going forward though. Coughed it up twice in a row under pressure and was a bit unlucky in that both ended in Mayo scores. Was taken off fairly quickly after the second one.

RTE need to look at having objective not partisan analysis of games. Lee Keegan was also giving the Mayo perspective on the live Sunday game. Surely RTE can manage to have analysis from pundits not from the counties involved in the match being discussed.

Replying To JimB1991:  "Mayo will be sick with that one. Played great to get back level then kicked some bad wides. The old failings came back. Goal chance was kicked straight at the keeper when there was the whole other side of the goal to aim at.
Good win for Galway in the end but has to be a worry how dominant Mayo were for long spells.
A big question mark whether either team will make much progress beyond the group stages."
Ha ha ha Clare....that's a great win for a Galway team at 70%

Great to get over the line. Any day you can go to Castlebar and win is a great day, but to do 4 in a row in their own backyard is simply superb. They will be sick for a while after that!

Having to listen to Keegan during the game and Staunton afterwards was hard going.

I thought the ref was poor on many counts, some for us, some against. McDaid's solo run to grab the game by the scruff right when Mayo were in danger of taking full control was a thing of beauty. Midfield and attacking play was classic

Having had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Enda Colleran I'd like to think he was looking down today and enjoyed that as much as we did.

Gaillimh go deo.

It wasn't clearly a 2 pointer. The umpire isn't 9 feet tall. The uprights aren't made of glass so he could see through them if he was 9 feet tall and judge if the ball had passed the crossbar before Gleeson touched it. There's no VAR technology helping him. A call was made based on what officials can see with their own eyes. Our defenders have eyes too. Too often used watching watching Galway players kicking points in the first half, same as the League match. Because sure 'we'll have the wind in the second half we might as well not kill ourself defending now'. Galway, Donegal, Armagh and Kerry won't give up handy scores like that. Winning of the game for Galway: knew when to wmwin ball and knew what to do with it when they had it. Another 'bad luck' story for Mayo. The ref robbed us! We beat ourselves, again.
