Replying To Gaaforlife2023:  "Lots people picking Galway and Donegal for All ireland . I wouldn't rule out Kerry or Tyrone"
Would be a big surprise if Tyrone went from not reaching the last 8 last summer to winning the All-Ireland the following year. Good U20s added to their panel but U20 is a bigger step up than U21 used to be.

Kerry will be there or thereabouts again. Only lost to Armagh in extra time and really should have won in normal time.

Haven't seen many picking Galway to be honest. Seen loads tipping Donegal. On the Examiner podcast the 4 pundits picked Donegal, Tyrone, Dublin and Kerry. Barely even mentioned Galway. Or Armagh for that matter.

Few on radio fancy Galway

I definitely think Galway missed there big chance last year and unless Galway find at least 2 scoring forwards they miss out again need find freshen up team in general I'd put John Maher captain

This Conroy lad from St James' might be decent with the new rules. 4 two-points in only 25 minutes played this evening.

Satisfactory start albeit against Div 2 opposition, but kildare were very good in that opening half..
Our ability to kick 5 2 pointers alone won that..
Wrap Conroy in cotton wool...
The other Div 2 side Monaghan had a good win against the weaker Mayo team..
Great that we are off and running..

Div 3 side actually! Genuinely curious, what's the general concensus on how the game was played with the new rules?

Well fair play to them , they looked tidy enough in that first half...
The biggest positives tonight , cian Hernon back from injury, the few young lads dis fine on introduction but without doubt we will get plenty of 2 pointers based on our ability and especially Paul Conroys to give from outside the arc...
Early days off course

He's some man for one man, mid 30s and kicking 4 two pointers in the first weekend of Jan. Plenty of new faces to look at Paul Conroy should be rested until the league gets up and running now.

Kildare won't be long in Div 3 if they don't gain promotion back to Div 2, only poor management will prevent them securing promotion with a game or two to spare. I'd fancy Sligo to join them in Div 2 in 2026.

These new rules could really play into galways hands, we have plenty of lads to shoot 2 pointers and with quick ball into comer with the space he will have with the 3 men back at all times should suit him massively, its jan 3rd but i think while teams get used to the rules in the first year, i see us in croke park in the final stages with the cards we can play

A few thoughts;

It ended Galway 2-6-6 (24) to Kildare 0-0-17.
The old saying "goals win matches" still true, but then two pointers will have a big say. Game was level until the last 15 where Galway had one man score 4 2 pointers. A huge asset.
I'm conservative about the game, but the 2 point line is damn good, can change a game in a matter of moments, especially when in the melting pot.

Both teams were done a few times for not keeping men up, Kildare I'd even say wrongly, which to me emphasises just how tough it'll be for club refs to officiate.

Dissent was another big thing, you're seeing scores on a plate being given for really, really little and often the crowd hadn't a clue why frees were being given. Was definitely more stop start than we're used to but maybe referees will become less whistle happy with time, or we'll all learn to get used to what is now a foul/dissent.. players included.

Good game for the time of year and I'd be confident Kildare will be strong in division three. Good showing from some new lads with big hitters who weren't available last year returning to the fold still.

Conroy is a brilliant distance shooter for sure.
He will be man marked by every team now though with the 2 point rule in place. He's not going to get as much space to get his shots off.

Will these new rules apply to Club Football, U20, and Minor matches too?
