When Conroy had the shirt pulled off him, I didn't see much of a six pack. Not trying to be cruel or anything. Fantastic footballer and in great shape compared to 99.9% of population however I wonder if the shirrt was ripped off anyone from any of the other top 8 teams what we would have seen.

well thankfully we survived in the division which was the main objective and we seen a few newcomers to the team.
personally i would start bot cunningham and o curraion against london and sligo as they are the future.
i think youll see sean kelly named at 10 but he will be deployed in a defensive role as for some reason
teams are going through us too easily and kelly's pace will us both in defence and attack..
id also start darcy with maher in midfield ang bring conroy on with 20 to go in both games as darcy cant play
11..he is a midfielder end of and thats where he will play when the injuries return so lets give him as much game time as possible to find some form and build a bit of a relationship with maher..

from what im hearing the lads have work to do fitness wise and lets hope we will have everyone available for the connacht final and beyond and there still is reason to be optimistic that we will have a good championship.

Before Galway get to play Sligo, we have to beat London and Sligo have to beat Leitrim. We had a difficult day in Ruislip the last time we visited and I wouldn't be taking that for granted. I recall Mayo getting out Ruislip once by the skin of their teeth on another occasion.

Silly comment but I get the point. Galway's S&C has to be the poorest across the 2 divisions it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that. They should have got someone else in, new ideas techniques and it would get a bounce from the lads. It has been the Achilles heal of pjs tenure

When you say Tierney and Walsh for the subs bench how do you know they will be fit? From what PJ is saying they have serious injuries as I think they both suffered quad injuries taking frees / 65's.

Lots poster blaming S/C for the way Galway are playing absolutely rubbish , Agee players are getting turned over only way stop that very simple don't take ball into contact dubs don't , also no Galway half back can give 20-30 yard kick pass not a kick an actual pass they not able do it think they need watch few videos of Dubs in action and they always head up looking give 20 yard pass not a hand pass 2 yards or a 50 yard kick to nobody ,, i for one wonder what these development squads at all ages in Galway are actually developing, we as a county have no real half forwards , both heaney, sweeney are wing backs Darcy midfield or nothing ,, posters also suggesting putting Sean Kelly wing forward madness he best full back in Ireland so that's where u put him , Mcdaid if fit midfield not corner forward coming out the field,management need step up over next 6/8 weeks or it be there last term , it's actually harder get off the team than anything some players living on past achievements,,

I don't care how good a footballer someone is. If we don't see a defined six-pack when the jersey is ripped off them, it's back to the gym and training pitch for them.

Sean Kelly is a real gem of a player, however he is far from being the best fullback in the country. I believe, McEvoy (Derry) Hampsey (Tyrone), Foley (Kerry), McCole (Donegal), Fitzsimons (Dublin) and Stack (Roscommon) are better No. 3's.

The six-pack is long outdated. A Ronaldoish eight-pack is the holy grail. No harm getting a few tattoes to finish the look.

Just looking at GalwayvGAA twitter following and considering they have both hurling and football, are way down on followers compared to Mayo, Kerry and several other comparable counties. The county board needs to get its act together - market the games properly and generate more interest in games at both club and county.

You are correct. Jimmy Keaveney and Mickey Kerins would be told stay home.......maybe before most of the posters time.

I see it at club level. Young lads built like
houses up but can't play ball. We are breeding a generation of athletes but losing out on the football. I know lads with more talent who don't bother with it anymore. It's a shame.

We will definitely agree 2 disagree on that point u have named 6 players who in ur option are better full backs than Sean Kelly like everything on here it's all opinions but can't agree ,,

Worrying performance from our u20s tonight.

Mayo the better team and looked much better coached compared to our lads and great intensity. Not a good endorsement of Savo and his management team unfortunately. Thought ref was poor for both sides too, strange calls.

U20 result

Mayo 0-16 Galway 2-6

Galway actually got 2 goals in the first 15 minutes but 6 points is a paltry return overall. Only 2 points scored in the 2nd half. 2 early points after half time but then didn't score at all for the last 30 minutes of the game.

Feels like we are slipping at bit at underage again after a good last decade. No Connacht title since 2018 at minor. Even though they won the AI through the back door in 22. No Connacht U20 title since 2020.

Fell away badly after a bright opening 15 minutes tonight. Weren't overly convincing against Leitrim last week either. Sligo in Tuam a big one next up and will need to play better than the last two games to win that match against the defending champions with 10/11 of last years team.

I agree it does look like we are slipping at underage level. Might sound like a strange thing to say given the u20 AI win in 2020 & minor AI win in 2022.
At academy level I don't think we've been tearing up too many trees either from what I have been hearing.
Of course these competitions are developmental but they give a decent indicator all the same.

Did any one ever see Brian O Driscoll's six pack? No.. Because he didnt have one. A six pack is a prerequisite for body building. Not necessary or beneficial to any other sport

I actually went to the match. Galway could have had a third goal in the first half only for a good save by the goalie. When Thompson and then Kilcommons went off injured we lost our way and midfield. For those two in particular it is the work they do off the ball (running lines, plugging holes, unseen work) that was missing. Thought some of the lads brought the ball into tackles and were easily turned over. Some were very greedy on the ball, that comes from playing poor opposition last week and thinking you could get away with it again. I think they will learn but they better pray Kilcommons and Thompsons injuries are not that bad.

Yes agreed on your point re marketing of our games in Galway. It's poor and quite amateurish. A problem in marketing Galway's county teams and thus building up the crowds and a larger fan base is this - we're not winning! We don't do momentum or consistency. We don't build up 'Big Mo' - large scale momentum, a phenomenon that's been talked about in US sports marketing since the 1960s, where winning brings crowds, crowds brings money to feed further development, ongoing development brings longer term success. Big Mo doesn't just apply to professional sport, it applies to amateur sport too.
I'll focus on football for a min. We never build solid momentum year on year, like the Dubs, Kerry, Mayo. Under Joyce's tenure you've all seen what we're capable of when it's all coming together but what is allowed to happen is that we're peaking and troughing and in any code that loses the people. The troughs endure far longer than the peaks and nobody here really wants to go out of their way to watch their beloved maroon and white lose. Parents won't bring the young kids and the massive numbers of more peripheral supporters (as opposed to the small number of regularly attending diehards) just won't venture out to see us beaten and play incoherent, back-peddling football. The regular punter, the thousands of families and kids involved in our games in the county, want to see us having a cut, taking down the noisy neighbours, beating a Dublin or a Kerry, but it just doesn't happen. It's damaging our prospects and it's hard to see how it's going to change any time soon.

Seanie O'Leary who played hurling for Cork in the 70's / 80's was another player that did not fit the description of having a "six-pack" and he still won 9 Munsters and 4 AI's!
