Should really have won but given the respective injuries for both sides, Roscommon should really have been winning that. Paul Conroy motm

Stolen sheep forum makes amusing reading. Apparently Conroy (and Tierney) are bang average players. Conroy has had a better career than any Roscommon player since Dermot Earley snr

I think I first saw him in the Ted Webb and he was an outrageous talent. I could never understand guys on here picking teams and leaving him out. Never really lets the team down.

Replying To Marooned:  "Look, Mayo have most of their first team available and playing. The only real ones missing that might make a difference are Ruane and D O'Connor and Ruane was poor enough last year. That's pretty close to their best team no matter how it's sliced. Galway are down their best 5 players and a couple others on top. The two situations are not even really comparable."
Don't think anyone said the two situations are comparable, but Mayo are missing players too. Losing two players to injury in the first half yesterday was not ideal either.

Having Hession and Carr available would improve Mayo a lot for example. As would starting Tommy Conroy.

Ruane was poor last year (similar to Shane Walsh) but he's only 27 so no reason he can't rediscover his all star form.

Mfs, Galwaymaster is just having some fun, sure everyone knows at this stage you can't invade the pitch anymore when you win the All Ireland, health and safety rules, apparently.

Replying To Immer:  "You'd be doing to well get agreement from any group of Mayo supporters on a preferred starting 15 if everyone was fit and available, which is rarely the case for any intercounty team. That being said I think starting Paul Towey ahead or James Carr, Cillian O'Connor or Tommy Conroy would be niche view point."
I was talking about last weeks team.
Conroy - while not playing particularly well at the moment - will be a starter if he regains any sort of form at all.
Anyway no point harping on about it.
I agree ye have more depth than we do.
We can't beat anyone without Comer.
At the same time "if" we somehow manage to get Damo, Shane, Sean Kelly & McDaid fully fit and suffer no further injuries to first choice players we won't be easy to beat.
Certainly we won't be the pushover we were last week if that materialises.
I really think we will feel the loss of Peter Cooke though. The other absentees (Burke, Hernon, McLoughlin) are only losses to me in terms of reducing strength in depth.
Of course we still have that huge issue with our goalkeeper. But this management are not for turning on Gleeson as number one it seems.
Not sure what kind of injury Conor Flaherty has

There was definitely an improvement yesterday but that wouldn't be hard considering how poor we were last week. Felt there were some sloppy tackles towards the end of the first half where Roscommon got easy frees and that was costly. Having said that, Conor Lane blows for any contact usually. Conroy was excellent, Maher and Tierney also did well. Gleeson must be very thankful he had Conroy to kick to yesterday. He had a few questionable moments in the first half. Is Conor Flaherty still involved with panel actually? I still think Joyce will keep Gleeson all year regardless.
Mulkerrin gave away some silly ball again yesterday, he lacks sharpness. O'Curraoin showed well, especially in the first half. Finnerty looks shorn of confidence at the moment. Really don't know why Joyce replaced a shooter with Darcy at full forward. Think there's a 2 week break now before the next game in Tyrone. We need it. Need to get some lads sharp and hopefully get some players back. Team still looks so slow and one-paced.

Based on available players and wanting more pace in the team, would like to see the following lineup:
Burke/Flaherty
McGrath
Fitzgerald
Liam Boyle
McHugh
Daly
Molloy
Conroy
Maher
Heaney
Tierney
Sweeney
O'Conaighle
Comer (if not fit then Rory Cunningham who is rapid)
O'Curraoin

I imagine Walsh, Kelly, Silke etc will still be missing. Would like to see Antaine O'Laoi on the bench, very quick footballer.

It still baffles me how management could put Darcy in full forward actually how they put him in any of the 6 forward positions he a midfielder or nothing in my opinion,, can't figure out how Rory Cunningham not brough on he best intermediate forward in galway for years he a scorer not much point having him in there and not playing him in 2 matches Galway have score 19 points no goal he scored 2-01 v Leitrim in 30 mins ,,. I thought Joyce as a top forward in his day woukd realize u need scores to win matches and he scores ,,

I say this from the bottom of our heart, keep this Mayo stuff in the Mayo thread. We don't care.

From memory that was City and West vs Galway North in Pearse Stadium
The best on the day were Conroy, Tommy Walsh(Renvyle), Damien Reddington(Dunmore) and Oisin O'Brien(Caherlistrane)
I would say the pick of the 2 teams won an All Ireland Minor in 07

Even when Conor Flaherty wasn't injured Conor Gleeson won't be moved.

So why are Galway posters bringing up Mayo after a Galway and Roscommon game?

Why did a Mayo poster bring up Galway on the Dublin thread?

Looks like he won't alright.
He's there for one reason only - the length of his kickout. But most of our kickouts are just 50-50 boomers unlike other top teams.
If they want their goalie to come out and get involved in the play he is a disaster. Very uncomfortable on the ball. Looks like he will turn it over every time anyone comes near him

Lads, can we talk about Galway Football, serious stuff.
Where will Fitzgerald go when Kelly comes back or might Kelly move further out?
Which 2 of McGrath, Glynn, Silke.
Best midfield pairing.
1 new find, like Maher last year. Maybe O'Conghaile
1 bolter, like Hernon last year. Patrick Egan

From watching club games, I don't think he's any longer than the other keepers. Healy from Annaghdown, O Beolain, Breatnach, Lavelle, O'Malley, Keane, Farragher from Monivea all from the top of my head can hit it as long as Gleeson. On top of that, most of them can ping it accurately. I think it's a lazy comment by pundits that because Gleeson is a big lad he can hit it longer than other keepers in the county.

Having said all that, I'll be shocked if Joyce drops him for any game.

McGrath, Kelly, Silke, McHugh & Daly are all definite starters. If Molloy gets back to his 2022 form then so is he!

Would have expected Hernon to be knocking on that door but that will be next year now, good to see Fitzgerald have another good game.

We'll have to wait and see on Egan, would have had Sam O'Neill ahead of him in the pecking order but that list is looking light with the injuries and Cooke/McLaughlin gone travelling.

Joyce is giving time to Mulkerrins to get up to the level required and given his absence this is a good move as he needs games to get back to where he was prior to injury. If Comer, Walsh, McDaid, Glynn, Silke and Kelly are able to be ready to go at the All-Ireland series matches and Joyce has managed to get the likes of Mulkerrins, O Currain, O Conghaile, Egan, E Kelly etc up to the standard required we will have strength in depth come the business end. Who knows McLoughlin might even come back into the panel in May.

Its a gamble with our league 1 status but while I like the league I doubt many in Galway would look back misty eyed and say we won 2 league titles and 2 Connacht titles it was a great team. As Joyce says its the All Ireland or nothing.

Hard to read much if at all out of that game yesterday in those weather conditions.. Even if both had full strength teams it would still be a struggle for scores. 7 points from play between the two teams in 79 minutes of action tells its own tale.

A day for defenders and for Galway Fitzgerald, McGrath two of the stand outs in solid collective six and as expected Sweeney, Molloy played the double sweepers.

The midfield trio of Maher, Conroy, Tierney was always going to win that contest against a patched up Roscommon midfield containing no natural midfielders.

When the rossies went down to 14 it was the opportunity to win the game but that advantage was quickly ended by a foolish black. Tyrone up next do a good marking job on Darragh Cavanan and McCurry and Galway can win that game.

Joyce said that Shane Walsh's injury isn't that serious. 2 weeks until the Tyrone game so a chance that both him and Comer are possibly available for that game. Sean Kelly and Liam Silke still a few weeks away. McDaid unlikely to play any league football. The one player who we never seem to get an update on is Jack Glynn. No word on him at all as far as I can see.
