i think joyce need to cop on a small bit regarding team selection.. gbay (Galway) - Posts: 264 - 28/01/2024 19:40:56 2522817 Link 0 |
Speaking of money are Galway still working off a shoestring budget. The reason I say that is, I was at a Galway v Cork challenge in Limerick recently, and while Cork tech. officials were recording and supplying real-time data to the management team, Galway had none of that, other than a young ginger lad walking towards the dressingroom at half time with an iPad. Maybe Galway should make more use of technology and "artificial intelligence".

tierney along with maher in midfield would not go well.

18 Galway Kick Outs today, we won 10. smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 442 - 28/01/2024 20:04:53 2522826 Link 0 |
Lose a game and crap like this comes out. Give it a rest lads. Our setup is just as good as any other intercounty set up. How did real time data help Cork today btw? ahsure. (Galway) - Posts: 1632 - 28/01/2024 20:06:34 2522828 Link 0 |
i was one of the poor souls in the stadium today who tried my best to support that team and management. safe to say terrible performance on and off the pitch. i would worry about joyce's positional and tactical choices today.mayo have really had one over him since he started as manager. tincan (Galway) - Posts: 85 - 28/01/2024 20:11:41 2522829 Link 0 |
My understanding is that Galway have real time data from the vests and 1 guy on a laptop watching the numbers and mic'd up to management. Dublin have it split into sections of the pitch and up to 5 guys on the analysis in the stand. The teams in Div 3 and 4 get the data Monday nights after the games. In fairness to PJ, one thing he can't be accused of is penny pinching. When was the training camp abroad? smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 442 - 28/01/2024 20:16:44 2522830 Link 0 |
I imagine they had hoped to try Sam O'Neill in midfield during the league. He's got great athleticism for the position. Unfortunately he's also still injured. Marooned (Galway) - Posts: 2290 - 28/01/2024 20:47:00 2522840 Link 0 |
Big changes needed next weekend, we need a new centre back, john daly is not the answer. They ran through us all day. We need to start forwards who can score, we were dreadful up there 2day except the 2 new lads. Robert finnerty came on and all he done was drag a fella to ground. It was as bad a performance as I have seen since Alan mullhollands time Dunmore10 (Galway) - Posts: 143 - 28/01/2024 21:28:22 2522850 Link 1 |
West players dominate the team you're certainly not giving away what side of the River Corrib you are from

Maybe it did. But they just weren't good enough to beat Donegal who were at HOME!!

Please stop, you're constantly on here defending a player from your club. In my opinion, John Daly is one the best defenders, kick passers and readers of a game in the county. Please consider he played today without, Glynn, Silke, Kelly and McHugh in the back six and Molloy has just returned from a serious injury. Who is a better 6 in the county? You've offered no solution, yet you've just hammered a player for no reason.

I suppose next weeks team will depend on who available but definitely needs change goalie it's not working and has not worked and won't work now , though Fitzgerald did ok 2 day McGrath good eoghan Kelly not the answer never kicks the ball mayo sub got 2 points off him , Mulkerrins not up 2 it at all offers zero either defending or attacking need tierney midfielde mchugh centre backs move Daly to wing back teams have figured him out as a center back play forwards in the forwards , surely Rory Cunningham has to be worth a try he a natural forward ,Niall Daly , Cathal sweeney , cian Darcy none of them scoring forwards Johnny heaney was a great player but in my opinion he now a squad player,,think Joyce needs to be brave next sun and pick 6 forward in the forwards , or the writing be on the wall ,, Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 952 - 28/01/2024 22:02:41 2522863 Link 0 |
Positives today McGrath is a top class corner back. E Kelly first game back and did fine given the amount of ball being rained in from out the field. Mulkerrin and Molloy haven't played at this level for a long time and the game will do them good. Daly was left very exposed with those two either side of him but they will get back to their former level with game time. Maher is a big strong man, well able to play and fought hard even in trying circumstances. Conroy made an immediate and sustained impact(why did they not start him at full forward). Sweeney was fairly good and O Conghaile was excellent for an debutant. Trucker1 (Galway) - Posts: 396 - 28/01/2024 22:31:09 2522869 Link 1 |
Galway looked so brutally ponderous and leggy today. Do you know what they did on Saturday? They trained and had a speaker in, for a total session of…wait for it….5 hours! Five bloody hours the day before we play Mayo at home. What geniuses came up with that plan? Seriously! Yes, one can look to being there at the business end of the season and not in January but we can't keep eternally rolling over to Mayo. It is actually destroying interest in football with young people in our county. Supporters are abandoning going to games because the expectation against our arch rivals is a beating. I'm sick of this loser, soft touch Galway attitude. Whatever time of year at whatever stage of preparation, Mayo will always bring it against us and usually take us. We have a very poor brains trust on the sideline with negligible tactical nous. No plan. No spine. No real men stepping up - as in lads bold enough to show leadership mettle and battle for our county. Infuriating watching. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 971 - 28/01/2024 22:37:55 2522871 Link 1 |
100% agree. Daly is a class act, good enough for any team

I wonder would padraig Joyce consider playing defender's in defence, midfielders in midfield and for once forwards in attack, I know it's a radical tactic but it might just work. in all seriousness it's not a great sign after 5 years he doesn't know his players best positions. It's early days yet but not good signs so far galwayfootball1 (Galway) - Posts: 251 - 28/01/2024 22:38:44 2522873 Link 2 |
no im very much east galway.. picking lads in there proper positions aint hard.. i see alot of pundits are saying we have alot of work to do on the 28th of january... joyce confirmed today till be the same panel for the next few weeks until he gets lads back so a result next week of some kind at this early stage is v important.. one thing we did look leggy today so i hope the lads are in heavy training at the mo.. one change i will make id darcy to 8 with maher.. tierney to start at 11 but go to 14 at stages during the game as a target man if fit. i think they could bring in conroy though from the start for leadership. does anyone no is mulcahly from moycullen involved this year? joyce did say today that hernon and macloughlin could rejoin the squad in may if they come in good shape. id find it hard to think he wouldnt bring them in..two very good players and possibly a midfield partnership going forward. bit surprised the two monaghans., rory cunningham where not on the bench today.. think is very early days for egan and mccabe..are both them lads still u-20? gbay (Galway) - Posts: 264 - 28/01/2024 22:49:21 2522876 Link 0 |
Poor from Galway, even though it is the league and early day. No matter, you'd expect lads to have natural fight in their bodies whatever and whenever they play Mayo! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2094 - 29/01/2024 00:14:19 2522883 Link 2 |
