Replying To systematic:  "Lad are you there at all? Michael Daly and Colin Murray are both out for 6 months.
I wouldn't try Liam at full back, Corofin have had him at full a few times this year and it's not his best or most effective position. Sean Fitzgerald was pretty good as far as fbd goes so I'd say stick with him at least the first game.... Not like we've too many other options apart from Sean Andy"
Colin Murray is not suspended and is absolutely eligible to play in 2022 whether that is for mountbellw , NUIG or Galway.

Replying To rhudson:  "I think with the way the game has gone now
Positions mean nothing now in gaelic football
At times its hard to figure who is playing where
Players are selected as 3 or 6 or whatever no
But you will find during the game they could be anywhere on pitch
Players are covering more positions now on the field than in the old days"
Agreed. The most important thing is how they defend as a group and but in to what ever defensive system they are using. Very easy for an individual to get exposed if others don't buy into it. Against Mayo we looked really solid but we liked open against Ros.

Some very good individual performances in both games. Fitzgerald looks a real modern defender big, athletic but lean. Bigger tests to come for him but promising do far

Did anyone get suspended? Have the allegations been heard? Other than the so called leaked referees report to the papers there has been no word.

7 suspensions issued. I believe that 2 appeals have been heard and suspensions overturned (correctly so) and the remainder are still to be heard.

7 players sanctioned would be excessive. Players or mentors interfering with officials is worthy of a lengthy ban but verbals should be around the same as a red or black card offenses, I think a red for verbals is two matches.

just heard today that billy mannion was called into the galway panel..
very good full back with pace and power..i hope he can make the step up..
also i was talking to a few of the mountbellew lads over the weekend,,,
there are not banned whatsoever as of yeat.,so all players who where in the report
are all eligible to play as of now...
there also expecting a different outcome as the report was leaked before the club/players
where notified plus there are serious flaws in the ref's report.,i.e. including players who where nowhere
near him..
while im expecting some players to get some suspensions the idea of players been banned for 6/12 months
from what ive been told are incorrect with the possibility of the case being throwin out..
again this is just info ive been told.,not making this up....

looking forward to the game v meath next week..
lets hope for a big galway crowd and a good start for the league..

Replying To brisbane:  "Think he played for Connacht rugby as a 2. Anyone else notice Joyce and Cian O'Neill have never spoken on the side-line as far as i can see."
What's with strange comments like this?
There's literally a half-page size picture in this week's Tribune of them in conversation during the Roscommon match.
How would you even notice something like that, given that the camera is on the action 99% of the time?
Thankfully we're back to unrestricted attendances now, so we'll hopefully have a decent crowd in Salthill for the Meath game next weekend. One can even spend the entire game watching Joyce and O'Neill, and keep check on how often they speak to each other, if that's what interests them.
Looking forward to getting back to more normal games. This team needs plenty matches.

I suspect that you and/or your sources of information are ill informed re suspensions.
My understanding is that when suspensions are issued , that they are effective immediately pending appeal.
That's the reason why 2 of the appeals were fast tracked to facilitate participation in Sigerson. So as it stands there are 5 players currently suspended who are awaiting outcome of appeal. Despite the flaws/errors in the referees report I expect that these errors will be addressed on appeal and that while the innocent players should be exonerated with reversal of suspensions, I expect that the portions of the report that are deemed correct will be retained and suspensions will be upheld ( albeit with potentially a reduction in term).

Replying To GDL:  "Have to disagree there, Liam Silke is a quality player, a Denis Irwin type player 7 or 8 out of 10 most matches. He won't be missed till he is not available, I believe he is about to qualify as a doctor and when that happens he may not be available for selection as more important things in life than playing for Galway and getting online abuse happen. Multiple managers can't be wrong picking him over a long period of time. His best position would be in the halfback line but we never see that as he does a job for the team. He is also never injured and is always available, he is the one player you can depend on all the time to turn up."
Good post, Liam.

Anyone know if the game will be streamed live on Sunday now there is no restriction on attendances? GAAGO only have the Div1 games at the moment on their listings.

McDaid and O'Laoi will do well to start as they both have been poor for a good while now and McDaid is only a shadow of the player he was at underage. I don't know what Antaine O'Laoi did or didn't do to get dropped as in fairness he did well with Galway a few years ago whenever I saw him play at least and was well able to take his scores when the opportunities arose.

Finian was good against Mayo. He covered a lot of their runners, won ball back and carried it forward before laying it off. He didn't have a great game against Roscommon, but his work-rate was will excellent. If he could add a couple of scores it would help his case for selection. He's well able to kick scores from play and does regularly at club level.
Antaine has had some injury problems in recent years, but he was back and in good form for the club last year.

Mulkerrin will definitely be back. Not sure about Cooke. That's 2 of the last 3 years he's had to go abroad for his work so I'd say there's no guarantees he's going to be available going forward. Hopefully he will but who knows.

Finian's workrate can't be questioned for sure.
He isn't offering anything in an attacking sense at all though.
