Not much talk about this on here so far, thought I'd get your opinions? I'm pessimistic if I'm being honest,, hopefully I'm wrong but I can see a comfortable kilkenny win,, it might even get ugly (10 + margin in it), but ill go for the cats by 5. On our day we can still beat them, but I'll be surprised if we come out on top this weekend. We have a good first 15, but we don't have much depth after that. There are a lot of players who need to develop and gain experience. If we had Whelan, I'd have a more confidence, but without him I can't see us having enough to trouble Kilkenny. Cody hasn't won any of the last SIX all-irelands, which is a spectacularly bad run by his standards. It just shows you, he can 'prime' away all he likes, but unlike Rumpelstiltskin, he can't spin straw into gold. I see it as 50:50, if Whelan is available. Without Whelan, our attack looked limited in Wexford, and would be unlikely to trouble KK greatly either. It'll be a great game to test where Galway are at. They struggled for large parts against Westmeath two weeks ago. They will be hard working and tough as always but they shouldn't have enough to quality to beat Galway if Shefflin has our lads on song. Take TJ out of that forward line and it is very poor. Cody, as usual, might knock a good tune out of KK but, bar TJ, Murphy in goal and Wally, they won't be fielding many with AI medals, hardly as many as ourselves I'd imagine. I'm a little confused reading the posts. We'll have a better idea what leinster is really like after Sunday. Cody is a clever old cat. Regardless of what the result is on Sunday they will play again in the leinster final. Cody is on a fact finding mission on Sunday. Don't read too much into the result and enjoy the long weekend. Yes they will always leave it all out there and be hard to beat but when you compare them to you man for man it's hard to see that they are better than you to the extent that Galway fans on this are expecting to lose to them in Salthill. The main reason is that while Kilkenny are not at the level they used to be, they still deliver consistent performances in most games. You're guaranteed a minimum standard with Kilkenny and very rarely will they fail to show up and perform to at least a decent level. On the other hand, we're not quite sure what we're going to get with Galway at the moment. We had two shockers in the championship last year, whereas Kilkenny won a Leinster title and were very competitive in an All-Ireland semi-final. No guarantee they'll meet again in a Provincial final. If we lose, even beating Dublin mightn't secure it. If KK lose, they could even be under pressure to qualify; facing a physically strong Dublin team who owe them one in Parnell park and a fired-up (though probably inferior) Wexford at home who will be fighting for their lives. That's the beauty of the round-robin system, there are few dead rubbers in it. With 6 teams now in Leinster, even 7 points may not mathematically guarantee qualification.
