Say the bookies got it right with this one Galway very poor.

Probably one of our poorest championship performances in 50 years and I for one have seen a fair few horror shows in my time. I have been predicting for some time that Galway are heading to Joe McDonough and while some on this forum have said that is an overreaction the downward trajectory has been alarming. For the first time since the early 1970s Galway are not a bonified top 8 team and it is hard to be anyways optimistic in the years to come with little or no talent in our ranks that will make us competitive at hurlings top table.
As we have seen it could be a long ways back if we do slide into the lower tiers .

The worst Galway team in 20 years, I'll be shocked if they get out of Leinster.

Wexford and Dublin will both fancy their chances of making a Leinster final against Kilkenny.

No, but they will bring a lot of fight and won't make it easy to hurl that's why I fear for us, no intensity or high work rate.

Replying To galway19:  "Very small Galway crowd in Nowlan today and I'd say our crowds will be very small the rest of the year after that display. Donoghue had talked about bringing supporters along - that style of play is putting people to sleep. Regardless of results the rest of the way in Leinster, there aren't going to be many interested in watch that sort of stuff. We play like a football team, trying to maintain possession in five yard gaps rather than getting the ball down the field. Wouldn't have scored a goal if we were there until next Saturday.

Cathal Mannion and John Fleming were good but that was it. We gave Cian Kenny and the lad from Kerry the freedom of the park. We are completely over coached when we have the ball and lazy when we don't have it. Not a good combination."
Discerning crowd perhaps, thought it wise to give the fixture a miss. Weren't wrong in hindsight.

The confidence and snobbery from some Galway hurling folk would make you laugh sometimes.

We wouldn't win Connacht the way we're going at the moment.

But surely we're not that bad to lose to Wexford?

You'd say that on paper but I'm not seeing the game strategy, the fundamental basics or the fight from this team to give me any confidence.

There's an element of deluded gaa fans in most counties, including my own.

Whatever happens from here is academic. The goal has always been win Leinster or bust and that's not happening with current approach. Losing in a final again or finishing third and losing to an Munster team is useless to everyone. Performances like today set the overall trajectory of the squad back a long way. Donoghue should focus on getting a style of play that actually suits the players he has.

After today I'd nearly prefer Rory Burke to stay with the u20s than have to play with seniors as well. Leave that squad separate and not have them pick up injuries as they clearly have a chance to win that competition outright.

Pot, kettle and black come to mind. It isn't a month since one of your own was on here saying Leinster was between yourselves and KK.

The attitude towards Dublin in particular is mind-boggling. They knocked us out in the final round-robin game last year and have beaten us 5 times since we joined the Leinster championship but there still seems to be plenty of Galway fans who always write them off against us.

You were last year, comfortably so, and apart from Fleming who was decent today it's just rinse and repeat this year. Now before you all get excited, you are still favourites for the game in Salthill, but that's making the assumption you will improve. But will you?

I won't out him ;) To be fair, another Wexford lad at the time said such confident predictions might come back to bite.

I wouldn't even say it on paper. Wexford are better than us at the moment but we have them at home so that gives us a chance. Cant see us getting a result against Dublin in Parnell Park. We have Antrim at home so we should win that one so next week's match against Offaly is something of an acid test imo to see where we are as a hurling county.

We can't be as bad again as We were v KK, get a win v Offaly and with home games v Wexford and Antrim to come it's only better We can get.

This is the worst panel of hurlers we've had in 25 years. I don't see anything coming along either to change it. Worrying times.
