Replying To TanCanRan:  "Shefflin needed to get the Toms players longer off. Crazy what he's doing to them. The league is pointless in hurling and he had them back training a little over a week after the club final."
Yeah, a bit surprised with that to be honest. Mickey Harte is doing the same with the Glen lads. Might come back to haunt them later in the year.

Good move by Henry though, making Whelan captain; arguably the best hurler in Galway at the moment. He was a super-kid in 2017, now one of the veterans of the team. Times does fly it!

Still only 27. Great player!

Anyone know if Joseph Cooney rejoined the Galway panel? He had taken an extended break off and apparently was making a decision on rejoining last week. Concannon and Kevin Cooney injured for foreseeable future as with Liam Collins, time for the forwards waitings on the fringes to step up over the next few weeks

Replying To tommy k:  "Yes that is an interesting choice with Conor Cooney as vice-captain. Whelan has always come across as a quietish type of person who is not that comfortable giving interviews etc. but I suppose you don't have to be the loudest to lead and he generally leads by example in fairness."
He is louder on the pitch than off it for Kinvara!

I think I heard Henry Shefflin say last week after the Wexford game that Joseph would be rejoining the panel but didn't mention when that would be.

Handy win for NUIG puts them through to Fitzgibbon semi final. Very strong back line with Darren Morrissey, Tiernan Killeen, Daniel Loftus and Eoin Lawless. Gavin Lee and Colm Molloy got 2-8 from play between them. Finished 4-24 to 1-14. Will be a mighty game if they face UL.

Awesome scoring there. Fair play to them. Galway Abu.

Future Galway fullback I'd be reckoning. Not sure he has the pace for cornerback.

Just a small correction - NUIG is now called UG. I don't know why they couldn't just stick to UCG like when I was there in the 80's! They are a good team no doubt but UL appear a lot bigger in key areas and are dangerous up front. Even though UCC put it up to them last night for large spells and were 4 points up with about 5 mins gone in the second half, eventually UL wore them down and dominated the last 30 mins or so to win comfortably.

UCG was too easy I guess. Great match ahead I'd say. I think Galway will take them in a close one. Hon the Tribe!

Interesting team for Galway for Sunday. Should be a tight one against Tipp as usual.

Darach Fahy, Jack Grealish, TJ Brennan, Eoin Lawless, Cianan Fahy, Padraic Mannion, Ronan Glennon, Donal O'Shea, Sean Linnane, Gavin Lee, Jason Flynn, John Cooney, Tom Monaghan, Conor Whelan, Evan Niland.

If I was to take a stab at the team come championship this is what I think it might look like.

1.Darach Fahy
2.Padraig Mannion
3.Fintan Burke
4.Darren Morrissey
5.Cianan Fahy
6.Daithi Burke
7.Tiernan Killen
8.Donal O'Shea
9.Cathal Mannion
10.Gavin Lee
11.Jason Flynn
12.Conor Cooney
13.Conor Whelan
14.Brian Concannon
15.Evan Niland

Not sure about Flynn and Cooney but Cooney is vice captain and Flynn has started a number of games this year. Grealish might play 2 and move P Mannion to 5 but C Fahy has started a lot of games at 5 so think he might stick with him there. Kevin Cooney is a huge loss to the forward line.

Full back line will be under pressure tomorrow hopefully they all play well. Don't think Sean Linnane and Tom Monaghan are up to this level but hope I'm proven wrong. Need a big game from Flynn tomorrow Glennon at 7 is interesting has played in a lot of positions Kevin Cooney a big loss.

I think Monaghan has been one of Galway's better players in the last few years. Not convinced about John Cooney - for a big man he doesn't win possession too often. The jury is also still out on the likes of Grealish, Fahy, Glennon and Linnane but like you and many posters often say "I hope I'm proven wrong"!

Sean Linnane was the reason Noel McGrath didn't puck a ball in the quarter final last year.

I'd say Monahan has been a standout the last couple years
What I find remarkable is for a man of his stature he fairly takes the hits and keeps going
