Actually ignore my previous. I had forgotten that hurling club final is at 2pm so not possible either to watch or attend both.

They should reschedule the Antrim Westmeath game if the teams want to play it. The Walsh Cup is a players fundraiser and also it gives fringe players an opportunity to play for their county.

Dublin should be a lot stiffer test than Offaly or Laois. Galway Abu.

Game fixed for 1pm Saturday in Parnell. Will probably be a bunch of changes to the team with most of them playing Fitzgibbon tonight galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 790 - 18/01/2024 08:59:19 2520750 Link 1 |
Yeah, it was a pity about McInerney, and we 'lording it' all over the field for the duration in all other positions, as usual v this Limerick side.

As expected a classy first outing for University Galway in the Fitzgibbon Cup winning handy down in Carlow. Once they get their full squad together they will be hard stopped. There will be county u20s not getting near starting team. Daniel Loftus kept Eoin Cody very quiet. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 790 - 19/01/2024 00:09:29 2520899 Link 1 |
As regards last year's semi final - the first goal that Gillane scored he caught the ball over Daithi Burke's head, the second goal was created by a Reidy coming through the middle - McInerney had to go and meet him - the ball hits the crossbar and Padraig Mannion decides to pull on it into Gillane's hand for an easy goal - if he didn't touch the ball it would have been cleared. And as regards Grealish he's your best man marker for a pacy corner forward. Why does he need to be bigger which would likely make him slower?

100% correct on both situations none of the goals were McInernies fault he actually did a good job on him. anyone saying it was his fault did not actually watch the game. Though I do thing he will be still needed this year as there is no one imo that has proven they will be better come championship time.

Mac gets a lot of hate because of the final in 18 when he was clearly unfit to start due to injury. I for one have been very impressed with his level of consistency

I was at the game and believe me he was poor an intercounty CB should not lack pace and be only one sided which is what Mcinerney is I'm not trying to hammer the fella but he's just not good enough there has to be better hurlers then him in the county.

Everything isn't always about 'better hurlers' of course. Physique, spoiling capacity, marking ability, capacity to bring what you've got, and general defensive instincts to name just a few, would all be up there with 'hurling in a phone box,' for many 'assessors' of potential intercounty defenders.

Cianan moving in to centre back is good to see tomorrow. Henry had to make a bunch of changes with the amount of lads playing Fitzgibbon. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 790 - 19/01/2024 19:43:51 2521030 Link 1 |
I very much doubt that Henry is in the least bit bothered by 'lads playing Fitzgibbon'. Let's be honest here, games in the Walsh Cup in January, are nothing more than challenge matches, where county managers start to prepare for the year ahead. It gives them the chance to try out new tactics and young and fringe players.

It is to try out players but very hard to play the Fitzgibbon players who played last Sunday, Thursday and then play two days later with another college game midweek next week.

Another good win for Galway for this time of the year. Evan Niland looked great. Nice to see different lads getting a chance to play. Galway Abu. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2254 - 20/01/2024 14:42:30 2521124 Link 0 |
Handy win in Parnell after a slow start. Great to watch Evan when he is hitting scores like today - mad breeze swirling all over the place and I don't think he hit a wide. Dublin were very limited up front. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 790 - 20/01/2024 14:44:40 2521125 Link 0 |
