Adrian Moran has thrown his hat into the ring to become the next Westmeath senior hurling manager.
The Ringtown clubman and well-known hurley maker guided the Lake County to a famous Leinster U21HC victory over Kilkenny in 2016 before going on to manage Longford for three years, during which they reached Lory Meagher Cup finals against Louth and Fermanagh in 2022 and ’24 respectively.
The Westmeath job has been vacant since Seoirse Bulfin stepped down after just one season in charge last month. The Bruff man won just two games during his tenure against Down and Kerry in the Joe McDonagh Cup and was subjected to ‘tortuous’ criticism, Westmeath GAA chairman Frank Mescall told a subsequent county board meeting.
Former Westmeath football star Alan Mangan, who is in charge of county hurling champions Castletown-Geoghegan, could also be interested in the role which will require a major rebuild over the next few seasons.
