Antrim hurling boss Davy Fitzgerald lauded his players for “the fight” they showed in yesterday’s crucial victory over Laois at Corrigan Park.
The Glensmen eased relegation fears in Division 1B by delivering a sublime performance which saw them record a 4-22 to 0-21 win on home turf, capping off a long week after the squad had been hit by a sickness outbreak.
Speaking to BBC Sport NI afterwards, Fitzgerald credited his players after the display and reserved some special praise for his goalkeeper as well.
"Ryan (Elliott) made three unreal saves as well - we have to remember that - but at the same time we missed another three or four goal chances that we should have taken but definitely happy with the performance," he said.
"How sick we were during the week was unreal and I'm so proud that they came through it. It's out of our hands now and we'll see what happens."
On the on-going Corrigan Park row going on between Antrim’s footballers and the Ulster Council, the Clare native added: "All the hurlers are 100% behind them. We're all together in Antrim and hopefully common sense will prevail.”
