The Westmeath senior hurlers will face a Westmeath hurling selection in a charity match next Saturday, December 28 in aid of Mullingar Shamrocks clubman Stephen Corroon.
The 41-year-old father-of-two suffered a life-changing event last May while participating in the Orwell Wheelers Randonnée in the Dublin Mountains with his local cycling club, the Lakeside Wheelers. He came off his bike and suffered a cervical spine injury, leaving him with a permanent neurological deficit, rendering it unlikely that he will have use of his arms or legs again.
Further to this devastating event, Stephen's immediate requirements include significant home adaptations, the need for extensive equipment to ensure his safe and dignified care at home as well as the long-term input from occupational therapy and physiotherapy personnel.
The charity match will take place in Stephen’s home pitch of Springfield, Mullingar at 12 noon. Entry fee is €5.
